Weifang Medical College is a full-time medical college in Shandong Province. It is located in Weifang City, the world's famous kite capital in the middle of Shandong Peninsula. The school's history can be traced back to the ledaoyuan medical school and Weixian Presbyterian Hospital established by Weixian ledaoyuan in the late 19th century and early 20th century. In 1951, according to the order of the Ministry of health of the East China military and political Commission, the Department of health of the people's Government of Shandong Province instructed the Central Hospital of Changwei district to prepare for the establishment of Changwei medical school in Weifang. In 1958, it was rebuilt as Changwei Medical College, and in 1987, it was renamed its current name.

The University started undergraduate education in 1958, obtained the right to confer master's degree in 1986, and obtained the enrollment qualification of international students in 1998. In 2008, the University passed the undergraduate teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of education with excellent results, and the quality of talent cultivation and school running characteristics were fully affirmed by the expert group of the Ministry of education. In 2012, it was approved to serve the national special needs of doctoral personnel training project unit, and began to recruit doctoral students in 2013. In 2014, preventive medicine was approved as the first batch of undergraduate students. In 2016, three new specialties of clinical medicine, anesthesiology, and public utilities management were included in the first batch of undergraduate students. The clinical medicine specialty group (clinical medicine, anesthesiology, Stomatology, medical imaging, and Medical Laboratory Technology) and public utilities management specialty group (public utilities management, preventive medicine, medical laboratory technology, and Applied Psychology) were approved as high-level talents in Shandong Province Application oriented key project construction specialty (Group). The university is the construction unit of a famous school with the characteristics of applied talents training in Shandong Province, the pilot University of national excellent doctor education and training program, the school of excellent engineer education and training program in Shandong Province, and the construction unit of collaborative innovation center of colleges and universities in Shandong Province.

The school has enrolled students from 31 provinces (cities, autonomous regions) in China. There are more than 1300 full-time doctoral and master degree students, more than 15000 undergraduates and nearly 500 international students.

The school adheres to the education concept of "carrying medical ethics and cultivating people with heart", takes the cultivation of professional quality and ability as the main line, and focuses on cultivating high-quality applied and compound talents with social responsibility, innovative spirit and strong practical ability, forming distinct school running characteristics. Among the three academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering in Shandong Province, academician Xie Lixin has worked in our university for 25 years, and academician Yu Jinming is a 79 grade graduate of our university. In the second, third and fourth national medical college students' clinical skills competition, the University successively won the second prize of the national finals. In the Shandong Nightingale emergency rescue skills competition, the school won the first place in the university group.

The school has 16 Colleges (departments) and 24 undergraduate majors, covering seven disciplines of medicine, science, management, law, education, engineering and literature. It has formed a discipline specialty characteristic of taking medical education as the main body, coordinated development and mutual promotion of medicine and medical related disciplines. At present, there are 4 national characteristic specialties such as clinical medicine, public utilities management, nursing, anesthesiology, 3 provincial high-level application-oriented key projects (groups), 9 provincial characteristic and brand specialties, and 2 provincial undergraduate universities' application-oriented talents training specialty development support plan construction specialties. There are 8 provincial excellent courses and 46 provincial excellent courses. There are national virtual simulation experimental teaching center of clinical medicine and three experimental teaching demonstration centers of provincial colleges and universities. China Science Evaluation Research Center, China Education Quality Evaluation Center of Wuhan University and China Science and education evaluation network（ www.nseac.com ）The evaluation report on Chinese universities and disciplines (2017-2018) was jointly launched, and the ranking of undergraduate majors in Chinese universities was released, involving 523 undergraduate majors. The major of public service management and anesthesiology of our university respectively ranked in the top three in China.

At present, the school has one "public health crisis management doctoral talent training project" serving the special needs of the country. There are 6 Master's degrees in basic medicine, clinical medicine, public health and preventive medicine, pharmacy, biology and nursing, and 52 master's degree programs in secondary disciplines.

Scientific research school has 11 provincial key disciplines (key laboratories). Surgery, human anatomy and histology and embryology, imaging medicine and nuclear medicine, social medicine and health management are the key disciplines in Shandong Province during the 12th Five Year Plan period. Among them, human anatomy and histology and embryology is the post setting discipline of "Taishan Scholars" in Shandong Province, and surgery is the characteristic key discipline. Plastic surgery and ophthalmology are the leading subjects in Shandong Province. Plastic and micro repair technology laboratory is the Key Laboratory of Shandong Province, and biomedical laboratory, Applied Pharmacology Laboratory, nerve disease and regenerative repair laboratory, stem cell and regenerative medicine laboratory are the key laboratories of colleges and universities in Shandong Province during the 13th five year plan. The school has 2 provincial key medical and health disciplines such as hospital statistics and health management, 9 provincial key medical and health laboratories such as clinical anesthesia laboratory and biological drug laboratory, 2 provincial key disciplines of traditional Chinese medicine (Key Laboratory), 11 provincial key clinical specialties and 1 provincial key specialty of traditional Chinese medicine. The major social risk prediction and governance project of "healthy Shandong" is the independent cultivation and construction project of collaborative innovation center of colleges and universities in Shandong Province, and the health development research center is the humanities and social science research base of colleges and universities in Shandong Province during the 13th five year plan. The Journal of Weifang Medical College, which is the source of comprehensive evaluation database of Chinese academic journals, has been published at home and abroad.

Xie Lixin and Yu Jinming, academicians of Chinese Academy of engineering, are Honorary Presidents. The school has 1 Taishan scholar, 5 overseas experts and 9 special subsidies from the State Council. There are 8 national model and excellent teachers, 8 provincial famous teachers, 32 provincial and municipal top-notch professional and technical talents, 10 doctoral tutors and 596 master tutors. There are 5 provincial teaching teams. Applied Pharmacology Research and innovation team is an excellent research and innovation (cultivation) team in Colleges and universities of Shandong Province.

The school covers an area of nearly 1.2 million square meters, with a construction area of more than 630000 square meters and a library collection of more than 2.6 million books. There are 10 provincial postgraduate joint training bases and 17 affiliated hospitals.
