Gansu Forestry Vocational and technical college, founded in 1956, is a public full-time ordinary college with the enrollment qualification of higher education. In order to meet the needs of ecological environment construction in Western China, Gansu Forestry School was transformed into higher vocational college with the approval of Gansu Provincial People's Government in July 2001.

In 2003, the college was determined by the Ministry of education and the Ministry of finance as a local demonstrative vocational college supported by the central finance. In 2005, it won the title of "advanced school of green school activity in Gansu Province". In 2006, it won the title of "advanced unit of forestry science and technology in Gansu Province". In August 2007, it was established as a national model higher vocational college by the Ministry of education and the Ministry of finance.
The college covers an area of 4150 mu (including 3700 mu of Experimental Forest Farm), with a building area of 168000 square meters, complete school facilities, reasonable layout and beautiful environment. There are 62 professional laboratories and training bases, 8 multimedia classrooms, 1080 teaching computers and 360000 books in the library. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 48.2 million yuan. The college has nine teaching departments (departments) including forestry engineering, landscape engineering, environmental engineering, surveying and mapping engineering, construction engineering, information engineering, economic management, foundation department and adult education department. There are 26 specialties. The college is mainly located in Gansu Province and is open to enrollment nationwide. Currently, there are 5901 full-time students and 800 adult undergraduate and junior college correspondence students. The college adheres to the policy of "introduction, optimization, training and improvement", and has built a high-level and characteristic teaching staff. At present, there are 428 teaching staff, including 306 full-time teachers, 160 "double qualification" teachers, 6 professors, 88 associate professors and 60 teachers with master's degree or above; 16 visiting professors, 70 part-time teachers and 1 foreign teacher are employed in relevant universities, engineering technology units and scientific research institutes inside and outside the province. In accordance with the requirements of "Three Orientations", the college attaches importance to academic exchanges with domestic and foreign universities and scientific research institutions. More than 20 experts and scholars from home and abroad have been invited to give lectures in the college, and more than 30 teachers have been selected to investigate, further study and study in relevant domestic and foreign universities and production and scientific research institutions. Four teachers were selected to carry out academic exchanges and international project cooperation at UNB University in Canada. In April 2005, they signed a cooperation agreement with UNB University on jointly training students of forestry technology, academic exchanges and personnel visits.
In 2008, the college enrolled 26 majors, including forestry technology, environmental monitoring and governance technology. Among them, forestry technology specialty was identified as the key construction specialty of Higher Vocational Colleges by the Ministry of education in 2002, architectural decoration technology specialty was identified as the cultivation specialty of skilled talents in construction industry by the Ministry of education and the Ministry of construction in 2004, and forestry technology, environmental monitoring and governance technology, engineering measurement technology, computer application technology and other four specialties were identified as the provincial teaching reform pilot Professional. In 2008, the college plans to recruit 2500 students.
