Guangxi Institute of industry and technology is a higher vocational school established in August 2003 with the approval of the people's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region by the merger and upgrading of the former Guangxi Nanning Chemical Engineering School and Guangxi Light Industry School. It is subordinate to the industry and Information Technology Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is an excellent school for talent training evaluation of Higher Vocational Colleges of the Ministry of education and a model higher vocational college in Guangxi Key cultivation units. In October 2013, Guigang Vocational College was incorporated with the approval of the people's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The former Guangxi Light Industry School was founded in 1956, and the former Guangxi Nanning Chemical Engineering School was founded in 1958. Guigang Vocational College, formerly known as Guigang normal school, was founded in 1904.

The existing campus covers an area of 1038 mu. The total value of fixed assets is 450 million yuan, including 110 million yuan of teaching and scientific research equipment. There are 271 on campus experimental training places and 171 off campus training bases, including 2 national vocational education training bases supported by the central government, 1 national demonstration training base for vocational education and training in petroleum and chemical industry, and 6 demonstration training bases for Higher Vocational Education in the autonomous region. There are 4 projects supported by the central finance to improve the development ability of professional service industry in higher vocational colleges, 1 special project of "replacing compensation with awards" in Vocational Education of the central finance, 5 specialty of characteristic specialty and curriculum integration construction project in Guangxi Colleges and universities, 3 characteristic specialty in Guangxi Colleges and universities, 5 high-quality specialty in Guangxi Colleges and universities, and 6 excellent courses at the autonomous region level.

The college has more than 20000 students, including 18100 full-time students and 2100 adult students. At present, there are 782 in-service teaching staff and 699 full-time and part-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 35 professors, 145 associate professors and vice senior teachers, 6 doctors, 276 graduates and above, and more than 70% teachers with "double qualification". There are 5 national famous teaching teachers in the industry, 1 teaching teacher in the autonomous region, 6 vice chairmen and 23 members of the national professional teaching steering committee, and 1 excellent teaching team in the National Petroleum and chemical industry and 1 excellent teaching team in the autonomous region.

The college focuses on higher vocational education, supplemented by staff training and continuing education. There are 10 teaching departments (departments) and affiliated secondary vocational schools. There are 54 Higher Vocational Majors in petrochemical, sugar and food, equipment manufacturing, electronic information, construction engineering, power system, economy and management, education and art. The main majors are closely connected with food, automobile, petrochemical, electric power, non-ferrous metals, metallurgy, machinery, building materials, electronic information, medical science and technology Hundreds of billion yuan industries, such as pharmaceutical manufacturing, biology, ship repair and construction, and marine engineering equipment, as well as strategic emerging industries, such as new materials, new energy, energy conservation and environmental protection, biomedicine, new generation information technology, new energy vehicles, and advanced equipment manufacturing. Since 2008, teachers have undertaken more than 450 teaching and research projects at all levels. Teachers have compiled and published 458 professional textbooks and more than 300 characteristic textbooks, published 1768 academic papers in open academic journals at home and abroad, among which more than 40 have been included in SCI and EI, won 30 national patents and 12 teaching achievement and scientific research awards of Guangxi autonomous region.

The college cooperates with Beijing University of chemical technology, Nanjing Normal University, Shenyang University of chemical technology, Yunnan University of Finance and economics, Wuhan University of technology and Liaoning University of technology to provide correspondence adult education. It also cooperates with Fitchburg State University, Peninsula College, Glasgow City College, de Montfort University, doctoral Hill College of Australia, Royal University of technology of tanyaburi, Thailand and Taiwan University of technology Wan Shude University of science and technology and other foreign educational institutions jointly run schools.

The college pays attention to the construction of school enterprise cooperation mechanism and system, and establishes close cooperative relationship with 123 well-known enterprises inside and outside Guangxi. In 2009, it organized 113 enterprises, scientific research institutes and industry associations to jointly establish Guangxi Industrial Vocational Education Group, and served as the chairman of the group Council. In 2016, 8 colleges and 29 enterprises were organized to jointly establish Guigang Vocational Education Group, and served as the chairman of the group Council.

The college is the executive director unit of China Sugar Industry Association, the fourth council of China Chemical Industry Education Association, National Light Industry Vocational Education Research Association, Guangxi chemical industry society, etc. There are training bases for professional skill appraisal of special types of work in China's chemical industry, training bases for special types of work in China's light industry, Nanning training center of China's sugar industry, etc., with training and appraisal qualifications for 78 professional types of work. In recent years, more than 4500 people have received vocational skills training and appraisal for the society every year.
