Anhui University of Finance and economics is a multi-disciplinary university of Finance and economics, which mainly focuses on economics, management and law, across eight disciplines of literature, science, engineering, history and art, and faces national enrollment and employment. It is one of the first batch of universities in China with the right to grant bachelor's degree and the second batch of universities with the right to grant master's degree. It is a key university in Anhui Province.

The school was founded in May 1959 in Hefei, Anhui Province, when it was called Anhui University of Finance and trade. In 1961, the school was relocated to Bengbu, the central city of Huaihe River Basin, which is known as "Pearl City". In 1983, the school headquarters moved to Longhu west campus, which successively belonged to the all China Federation of supply and marketing cooperation, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of domestic trade. In February 2000, the State Council decided that Anhui University of Finance and trade should be jointly built by the central and local governments, with the administration of Anhui provincial government as the main body. In May 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the University changed its name to Anhui University of Finance and economics; in September of the same year, the University moved to Longhu east campus.

The school has three campuses, Jiaotong Road Campus, Longhu West Campus and Longhu east campus, with a total area of 1014050 square meters, total fixed assets of 1455.516 million yuan, book collection of 2.0847 million, and more than 1700 kinds of Chinese and foreign periodicals. At present, the school has 1407 in-service staff, including 994 full-time teachers and 452 teachers with senior titles, with a master's and doctoral rate of 83.8%. There are 22019 undergraduates and 1676 postgraduates. Since 2010, the university has entered the enrollment of one book. In 2015, the proportion of one book students reached 97.29%, and the admission score line has been among the top among provincial universities.
