Guangxi Normal University for nationalities is located in Chongzuo city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, which is a gateway city to Southeast Asia in China, a regional transportation hub city in Southwest Guangxi, and has a long history and glorious revolutionary tradition. It is the only public full-time ordinary undergraduate university in Southwest Guangxi, known as "the Pearl of the border" and "the gateway University of Southern Xinjiang".

The school has a long history. Its predecessor is Guangxi Longzhou normal school. Since it was founded in 1939, it has gone through the stages of Guangxi Longzhou normal school, Nanning Longzhou normal school and Nanning second normal school. In December 1978, with the approval of the State Council, a full-time ordinary college was established, named Nanning Teachers College, which is one of the three earliest teachers colleges in Guangxi. In 1994, the State Education Commission changed its name to Nanning Teachers College. On March 26, 2009, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the University was upgraded to Guangxi Normal University for nationalities.

At present, the school has two campuses, Longzhou campus and Chongzuo campus, covering an area of 1043.93 mu, and 750 mu of development land is reserved.
