Dear overseas Chinese

Time flies. I have been working in the United States for more than eight years since I became the Chinese ambassador to the United States in April 2013. I will leave my post and return to China in the near future. This is the longest term in my diplomatic career. I have experienced many historic events, made many warm and friendly friends, and left many unforgettable memories.

On the occasion of parting, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the overseas Chinese in the United States for their concern and support for my work! I can clearly remember that shortly after I assumed office in April 2013, dozens of overseas Chinese communities held a grand welcome banquet for me, which was the first large-scale event I attended after arriving in Washington. I clearly remember that during the Spring Festival, I had a long talk with overseas Chinese leaders, listening to you share your in-depth observation of the United States and making suggestions for the development of Sino US relations. I can clearly remember that every time Chinese leaders visit the United States, they are welcomed by overseas Chinese everywhere they go, and the national flags of China and the United States are displayed in the wind. I can clearly remember that when the ancestral country suffered disasters and crises, the overseas Chinese did not hesitate to donate generously. In particular, I can clearly remember that over the years, overseas Chinese have been living abroad, feeling for mulberry trees, making unremitting efforts to promote mutually beneficial cooperation and people to people exchanges between China and the United States, and making a firm voice in promoting the reunification of the motherland and safeguarding national dignity.

In a few days, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. Looking back on history, the Chinese people are all very happy for the great motherland to achieve its historic achievements from standing up, getting rich to becoming strong. Generations of overseas Chinese have always adhered to the patriotic tradition, never absent in every period of Chinese revolution, construction and reform, and have made important contributions to the independent liberation of the Chinese nation and the prosperity and development of China. Looking forward to the future, China has embarked on a new journey of building a socialist modern country in an all-round way, which provides a broader and better prospect for the development of the vast number of overseas Chinese. At the same time, it also requires the vast number of overseas Chinese to exert their wisdom and contribute their strength to the realization of the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. I hope that the overseas Chinese in the United States will continue to work with the Chinese people at home and abroad to create a better future for the Chinese nation!

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States 42 years ago, bilateral relations have made historic achievements, and the interests of the two countries have been closely integrated. Overseas Chinese in the United States have always been the folk envoys of Sino US friendly exchanges with the advantage of integrating China and the West. At present, Sino US relations are at a critical crossroads, and the US China policy is undergoing a new round of reconstruction, facing a choice between dialogue and cooperation and confrontation and conflict. At this moment, overseas Chinese in the United States shoulder a greater responsibility and mission. I hope you will continue to be a firm promoter and positive contributor to the healthy and stable development of Sino US relations from the perspective of safeguarding your rights and interests for survival and development in the United States, safeguarding the fundamental interests of the Chinese and American people, and promoting world peace, stability and prosperity.

A bosom friend in the sea is like a neighbor in the world. I will always cherish the profound friendship I have forged with you overseas Chinese during my mission to the United States. Finally, I sincerely wish you good health, family happiness and all the best!
