The representative of China refutes Japan's defense on the issue of nuclear polluted water discharged into the sea
Geneva, June 23 (Xinhua) at the 47th session of the UN Human Rights Council on June 23, the Chinese Delegation further refuted the Japanese representative's argument that "Japan has always handled the purified" treated water "of the Fukushima nuclear power plant in a responsible manner, which conforms to relevant international standards.".
The Chinese representative pointed out that Japan has not responded seriously to the reasonable concerns of all parties so far. Japan only decided to discharge nuclear polluted water into the sea from the perspective of economic cost, without considering the impact on the marine ecological environment, food safety and human health. In dealing with the Fukushima nuclear accident, Tokyo Electric Power Company has repeatedly tampered with the data and concealed it, so the data released is not credible. Recently, the Japanese media repeatedly exposed the news of radioactive leakage in the plant area of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, which has to make the international community worried. Japan claims that the treated water is safe and harmless, but lacks verifiable arrangements. People can't help asking, if nuclear polluted water is really harmless, why not discharge it to domestic lakes or other civilian purposes, but to the sea? These issues and concerns need a positive response from Japan.
The Chinese representative pointed out that no country should put its economic interests above the ecological environment, nor should its own private interests above human health. China once again urges Japan to rescind its wrong decision and not to start sea discharge without authorization until it has reached a consensus through consultation with all stakeholders including neighboring countries and relevant international institutions.
