[plant morphology] Jianye Zhujiao, also known as Tieshu Xiaoye and evergreen Jianye.

Evergreen shrubs. Stem erect, stout, less branched. The leaves are lanceolate, sessile, 30-60 cm long, 1.8-4 cm wide or narrower, slightly firm, bright, entire, reddish brown on both sides. Panicle terminal or lateral, erect or drooping; petiole very short, with 3 bracts at the base; perianth tube bell shaped, cyan purple, 6-8 mm long, 6-lobed, lobes narrow, inner lobes longer than outer lobes; stamen 6; ovary 3-locular. The berries are purple. It blooms in summer.

It grows in the garden. It is cultivated in Guangdong and Guangxi.

[functions and indications] it is used to treat Dieda, cough, hematemesis, epistaxis, bleeding in stool and urine, traumatic bleeding, infantile malnutrition, asthma and dysentery.
