Evergreen erect shrub, 1-2m high. Branches with long spines, young branches covered with brown scales. The leaves are sub leathery, obovate to ovate, oblong, 3-4.5 cm long and 0.5-2 cm wide, rounded at apex, cuneate at base, entire, covered with silver gray scales on the top, often falling off, and dense scales on the bottom; petiole 4-7 mm long. Flowers clustered in leaf axils into short racemes, silvery white, outside densely scaly; perianth short, cup-shaped, 2 mm long, upper 4-lobed, inner surface glabrous or sparsely white stellate hairs; stamens 4; style glabrous. The fruit is ovoid, 5-8 mm long, densely covered with silvery white scales and red at maturity.

Born in the wild. It is distributed in Fujian and Taiwan.

The leaves of this plant (Fujian) are also used for medicinal purposes.
