[chemical constituents and pharmacological effects] watermelon seeds contain fatty oil, protein, vitamin B2, pentosan, starch, crude fiber and α - amino - β - (pyrazolyl-n) propionic acid. It also contains urease, α - galactosidase, β - galactosidase and sucrase. Cucurbocitrin, a saponin like component, can reduce blood pressure and relieve the symptoms of acute cystitis.
