Shrubs, up to 4 m high. Branchlets yellowish green or purplish, glabrous. Leaves alternate or nearly opposite; oblanceolate, rarely long elliptic obovate, 5-10 cm long, 0.8-1.5 cm wide, apex pointed or acuminate, base cuneate, serrate, entire near base, with pale powder below, young leaves hairy; petiole 4-8 mm long. Catkin often curved, male inflorescence 1.5-2.5 cm long, stamens 2, filaments all united, anthers pale red, glands 1, born on the ventral; female inflorescence about 2 cm long, ovary ovate, sessile or subsessile, densely hairy, style, stigma 2-lobed; bracts obovate, above the middle dark purple black, hairy. Inflorescence 2-3 cm long, hairy; capsule 2-lobed. The flowering period is from March to May. The fruit ripens in April to June.
It is distributed in Northeast China and the Yellow River Basin. Huaihe River Basin and other places.
