Herbs annual, glabrous, 30-60 cm high. Leaves opposite, ovate elliptic to ovate lanceolate, 7-12 cm long, 4 cm wide, apex acuminate, base broadly cuneate, margin coarsely serrate, 3 main veins; petiole 2-7 cm long; stipules exfoliative. Cyme loose, white flowers, unisexual; male perianth 4-lobed, lobes short, apex slightly curved, stamen 4; female perianth, 3 or 4-lobed, lobes unequal, stigma brush head. Achenes enclosed by persistent calyx. The flowering period is from August to September.

Born in Forest Stone cracks, or wet ditch. It is distributed in the Yangtze River Basin and its south.
