Shrubs, up to 1.5 m tall, with milk. The bark is grayish brown. The leaves are simple, alternate, hard papery or nearly leathery, obovate, salty oblanceolate, with deeply cleft teeth on the edge, dark green on the top, light green on the bottom, coarsely Brown hairy, more dense on the veins; the petioles are densely white pilose. The inflorescence of cryptocephalus is solitary in leaf axils; the flowers are small and numerous; the receptacle is petiolate, thick, hairy, with bracts at the base and mouth of the receptacle, with green surface, white spots and pubescence; the flowers are unisexual, monoecious, with 2-6 male perianth lobes and 1-2 stamens; the female perianth is sometimes incomplete or absent, and the style is oblique and linear. Cryptocephalon ovoid or subglobose, hairy and white spotted. The flowering period is from June to July. The fruit period is from August to October.
