Annual erect herb with strong fragrance. Leaf blade elliptic lanceolate, apex acuminate, base tapered or cuneate, margin serrate, both sides with transparent glandular points. Inflorescence racemose, terminal and axillary; bracts leaflike, elliptic or narrowly oblong, 1.8-2.2 cm long, 3-6 mm wide, apex short pointed or obtuse, base broad cuneate or rounded, margin entire or upper serrate 2-3, hairy, with transparent glandular dots; calyx campanulate, coarsely hairy, enlarged when bearing, 5 mm long, 5-toothed, lobes rigidly hairy; corolla scarlet, 2-lipped The ovary is superior, with 4 carpels, 4-lobed, 4-chambered, and 1 ovule in each chamber. The style is attached to the base of ovary, with deep and nearly equal 2-lobes at the top. Nutlets globose, at base of calyx. It blooms in summer.

Most of them live in valley, sparse shade and moist forest. It is distributed in the south of China.
