Perennial herbs, 50-100 cm high. The rhizome is prostrate. Culms erect, slightly stiff, with many nodes. Leaves alternate, flat; linear lanceolate, 5-25 cm long, 2.5-5 mm wide, nearly leathery, veins parallel, leaf margin rolled when dry, base with sheath, sheath and leaf surface hairy, leaf back smooth. Panicle spreading, 10-20 cm long; branches ascending obliquely, rough; spikelets oblong, about 3 mm long, apex short pointed, petiolate; first glume white, transparent, truncate or broadly triangular, about 1 / 4 of spikelets, veins indistinct; second ovate, apex short pointed, with 7 veins; spikelets with 2 florets, dorsal abdomen compressed; first floret male, lemma oblong, with 9 veins The second floret is bisexual, lemma oblong, apex short pointed, thinly leathery, dorsal arcuate, margin slightly wide and involute, enclosing palea; stamens 3, filaments slender; pistil 1, ovary 1-locular, with 1 ovule, stigma pinnate.
