Plant morphology??
Deciduous shrubs or trees, up to about 10 meters high. Branchlets unarmed, pubescent when young. Single leaf alternate, elliptic ovate, or long elliptic, or obovate, 5-8 cm long, 3-5 cm wide, apex acute, base cuneate, margin acutely serrate, tooth tip glandular, glabrous above, densely covered with light brown villi when young, glabrous below or glabrous afterwards, stipules lanceolate, membranous, caducous. The flower is single at the end of the branch, with the same leaf or the first leaf opening, about 3 cm in diameter; calyx 5-lobed, lobes ovate lanceolate, 8-10 mm long, rolled outward, inner surface hairy, margin serrate, tooth tip glandular; petals pale red, obovate elliptic, about 15 mm long, apex rounded or slightly concave, margin slightly wavy; stamens numerous; ovary 5-locular, style 5. Pear long oval or obovate, 10-15 cm long, yellow, fragrant, hard flesh. Seeds flat triangular, dark brown. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit period is from September to October.
Cultivated or wild. It is distributed in Jiangsu, Shandong, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei, Yunnan, Guangxi, Gansu, etc.

[medicinal materials] the dried fruit is oblong in shape, often vertically cut into semi oval shape, 5-10 cm in length, 3.5-4.5 cm in width and 2-2.5 cm in thickness. The outer surface is smooth, wrinkle free or slightly rough, purplish red, sometimes with a fruit stalk, with sunken calyx at the upper end, non curly or slightly curly edge, thick flesh, hard and heavy. The section is flat, with seed compartment and dry seeds. The seeds are flat, triangular, reddish brown, closely arranged, with 20-30 seeds per chamber. The taste is sour and astringent, and the Qi is weak. It is better to be big and purplish red.
This product is used as papaya in some areas of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, Yunnan, Guangxi, Gansu and so on. Its trade name is "Chaenomeles glabra". See papaya.
