Aloe leaf

[source] it is the leaf of aloe vera var. maculata or aloe vera var. Curacao.
[plant morphology] 1. Aloe vera, also known as Allium sativum (miscellany of Lingnan), elephantrum elegans (compendium), elephantrum elegans, drapery grass, drapery flower (textual research on the name of plants), miecao, longmiecao, Longjiao, Wuqi.
Succulent perennial herbs. Roots bearded; short stemmed or stemless. Leaves clustered, spirally arranged; erect, plump; narrowly lanceolate, 10-20 cm long, 1.5-2.5 cm wide, 5-8 mm thick, apex acuminate, margin spiny denticles, base broad and phimosis. Stem solitary or branched, 60-90 cm high; raceme, scattered; petiole about 2.5 cm long, yellow or purple spotted, with membranous bracts; perianth simple, 6-lobed, lobes slightly curved outward; stamens 6, sometimes prominent, anthers 2-locular, dorsal; ovary superior, 3-locular, style linear. Capsule triangular, ca. 8 mm. The flowering period is from July to August.
It is cultivated in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Sichuan.

[chemical constituents] aloe vera leaves contain aloin, namely 2-keto-8-d-glucopyranosyl-7-hydroxy-5-methylparaoxonalone.
Aloe leaves also contain a new bitter glucoside, called aloenin, namely methylacetic acid.
