[source] it is the leaf of Juglans mandshurica, which belongs to Juglans mandshurica family.

[chemical constituents] the leaves contain gallic acid, gallic acid, trans oleic acid, α - and β - pinene, limonene, 1,8-cineole, juglone, α - hydrogenjuglone glucoside, β - carotene, juglanside, quercetin-3 - α - l-arabinoside, Hyperoside and polyphenol complex with high anti-inflammatory effect. It contains 5-hydroxytryptamine.

[pharmacological action] the water extract of leaves (excluding juglone) has strong bactericidal effect on Bacillus anthracis and diphtheria, and weak bactericidal effect on Vibrio cholerae, Bacillus subtilis, pneumococcus, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi and dysentery. It can protect mice from anthrax infection. It has no effect on Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The curative effect of tuberculosis is not good. The water extract of leaves and purified juglone could neutralize tetanus and diphtheria toxin in vitro, but not in vivo. In the test tube, 1:100 concentration of leaf extract can kill Leptospira. The polyphenol complex in the leaves has good anti-inflammatory effect, while the flavonoids can reduce the blood pressure of dogs. Spinosad from Walnut (leaf?) can enhance the secretion and motor function of small intestine in dogs and rabbits. Leaf decoction can accelerate the assimilation of glucose in rats, or reduce blood glucose.
