[plant morphology] Celastrus angustifolia
Woody vines. The old branch is dark brown, the upper part of the new branch is light green, and the lower part is reddish. Leaves opposite, broad elliptic, 4-7 cm long, 1-4 cm wide, apex acute, base cuneate, entire, papery, glabrous, dark yellow green above, pink below, pinnate reticulate veins, convex and pink on the back; petiole 1-2 cm long. Cymes on top of branches, petiole pilose; bracts ovate lanceolate; ca. 1 mm long; flowers small, pink; calyx 5-lobed, lobes ovate, ca. 2 mm long, outside pilose, inside scales; corolla campanulate, tube ca. 2.5 mm, 5-lobed, lobes elliptic, as long as corolla tube; stamens 5; ovary superior, oblong, pubescent, style short, stigma 2-lobed. 2 follicles. The flowering period is April.
It grows in mountainous area and mixed forest. It is distributed all over the south of the Yangtze River.
