Space stage
The earliest attempt of "space stage" can be traced back to the public performance of "Qin Liangyu" in 1938. Yang Cunbin, the director of the play, said, "the setting design of Qin Liangyu adopts the technique of space stage, that is, to regard the whole stage as space, instead of realistically reconstructing palaces and temples, to economically find one or two mediators that can represent the space to create atmosphere." The dance beauty of the play is designed by Liu Lu: a street lamp stands for the street, the head of the statue stands for the Buddha Hall, a few sails stand for the warship, a corner of the pavilion stands for the lake, and below are several different levels of platforms, which are simple, freehand and easy to perform. At that time, Yang thought that "not only Qin Liangyu, but also the space stage method should be used more skillfully in the setting of all historical dramas.". Later, a large number of costume dramas, such as Qu Yuan, flowers of Tang Di, Mulan joining the army, Li Enjie's loyal King Li Xiucheng, cowherd and weaver girl, Lu Gan's imperial envoy, Yao Zonghan's Tianguo Chunqiu, sun Haoran's Chu Bawang, cowherd and Weaver Girl (Shanghai), all adopted the idea of space stage, with some simple and general scenery units Such as platforms, columns, stone tablets, gatehouses, wall hangings, curtains, etc., as well as necessary props and a small number of hard scenes, symbolically outline the necessary dramatic environment.
