He was taught by Mr. Zhang Gaoyue, an outstanding old folk artist who developed Longquan celadon at the beginning of the Republic of China and made great contributions to the restoration of Longquan celadon.

Artistic attainments
After more than 20 years of training, he is proficient in the various processes of Longquan celadon traditional firing techniques. He is good at hand drawing, proficient in carving, inheriting the tradition and bringing forth the new. His works have a unique style. In 2008, he won the second place in the first ceramic skills competition held by China Arts and Crafts Association, and in 2009, he won the first place in the young and middle-aged on-site skills competition held by Zhejiang celadon Industry Association In May 2010, invited by the Shanghai World Expo, he demonstrated the traditional manufacturing techniques of Chinese Longquan celadon to the world on the stage of the Chinese elements activity area of the Shanghai World Expo. Zhang Xi's works have won one national treasure award, two gold awards, five silver awards, one provincial quality award, one all-round first prize, twelve gold awards and five silver awards. At the same time, many of his works have been permanently collected by national and provincial museums.
