As president
Acceptance of nomination
On March 23, 2012, US President Barack Obama nominated Kim Yong, a Korean American medical professor and President of Dartmouth College, to replace Zoellick, who will end his term in June, as the next president of the world bank.
According to the bank statement, nominations for a new president will close on March 23. Obama officially announced the nomination at a White House Rose Garden event. Jin ChenYong also attended the event and stood beside Obama to accept the nomination. "I don't think the world bank has a better choice for leadership," Obama said in his speech.
In 2011, 187 members of the world bank agreed to select a new president in a transparent and selective way. However, analysts believe that according to the voting mechanism of the world bank, the United States has the largest proportion of single vote and is expected to obtain the support of European countries and Japan. The candidates recommended by the United States are still the most likely candidates to be elected.
On April 16, 2012, the Executive Board of the world bank announced that Kim Yong was selected as the new president of the world bank. Kim Yong will take office on July 1 of that year for a five-year term.
The selection of the president of the world bank has gone through the procedures of nomination, publicity, interview and final selection. This is the first time in the history of the world bank that three candidates, including Kim Yong, Ocampo from Colombia and ivara from Nigeria, have participated in the competition. In the statement, the Executive Board of the world bank expressed its gratitude to the other two candidates, praising their participation in the competition and enriching the discussion on the role and future development direction of the world bank. The executive board also said it was looking forward to working with Kim when he took up his duties.
Nomination concept
Although medical development is part of the work of the world bank, it is only a small part. The world bank that Kim Yong will take over needs to deal with more than that. As a multilateral international institution aiming at promoting development and eliminating poverty, the world bank's current priorities include encouraging private capital to invest in poverty and developing countries, balancing the contradiction between energy demand and environmental protection, controlling food price fluctuations and balancing the capacity of emerging countries, etc. All these need to be solved by Kim Yong one by one. Obviously, it's much more complicated than running a university, and it's not limited to the medical field.
Reactions from all sides
On March 31, 2012, Wang Qishan, vice premier of the State Council of China, met with Kim Yong, an American candidate for the president of the world bank and President of Dartmouth College in Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, and listened to Kim Yong's introduction to his candidacy for the president of the world bank. The two sides also exchanged views on issues of common concern.
On April 1, 2012, Japanese finance minister Azumi said that Japan would support Kim Yong, the US nominated candidate for the president of the world bank and President of Dartmouth College.

After the talks, azuzhun said that Kim Yong once served as the director of the World Health Organization's Department of AIDS prevention and control, with outstanding ability and performance. At the same time, he fully understood the position of developing countries. Japan believed that Kim Yong was a "very suitable" candidate for the president of the World Bank.
Some Japanese media pointed out that the United States and Japan are the first and second largest contributors to the world bank respectively, and the support from the United States and Japan has increased Kim Yong's chances of winning.

Achievements in China
On November 28, 2012, Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang met with World Bank President Kim Yong in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai, and exchanged views on deepening cooperation between China and the world bank.
Li Keqiang said that over the years, China and the world bank have carried out fruitful cooperation in infrastructure, poverty alleviation and other fields. Especially in the past few years, the knowledge cooperation between the two sides has taken another step forward, which is very beneficial for China to learn from international experience in its development.
Li Keqiang pointed out that China has entered the ranks of middle-income countries, but its development is still very uneven. In particular, the gap between urban and rural areas is large and wide, and the gap is the potential. The biggest development potential in the next few decades is urbanization. To promote urbanization, we need to take the road of synchronous development of industrialization, informatization, urbanization and agricultural modernization. To ensure food security, China's food should be based on itself, which can not be solved by the world market. We should pay more attention to green development, strengthen environmental protection and energy conservation, deepen reform, strengthen social construction, and promote the improvement of basic public services. All these require international vision and world experience, which will help us successfully cross the middle-income trap. China is willing to carry out joint research with the world bank on urbanization, with the participation of universities and research institutions, so as to become a "flagship" project of bilateral cooperation. The modernization of 1.3 billion people and the urbanization of nearly 1 billion people are unprecedented in human history. China's good road will not only benefit the Chinese people, but also contribute to the world.
Kim Yong very much agreed with Vice Premier Li's proposal, saying that China's urbanization process will provide a huge market and valuable experience for the world. The world bank is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in this regard, which is of great significance for enriching the world bank's development concept and doing a good job in poverty reduction and development assistance.
On November 5, 2018, at the first China International Import Expo, Jin Yong, President of the world bank, said in his speech that rural e-commerce and Taobao village played a key role in poverty alleviation in Guizhou. Kiwi fruit and other specialty products were able to get out of the mountain and effectively helped local farmers out of poverty.
The reason why he spoke highly of the poverty alleviation mode of rural e-commerce in Guizhou is that Jin Yong just finished his investigation in Guizhou one day ago.
From November 3 to 4, 2018, Kim Yong led a world bank delegation to Guizhou and Guiyang to investigate the development of rural e-commerce, pension industry and big data. During his inspection tour in Guizhou, Jin Yong said that Guizhou's development achievements are encouraging, and Guizhou's development experience is enlightening to the world. He said that Guizhou used to be one of the poorest areas in China, but now the incidence of poverty has dropped significantly. One of the ways to help Guizhou people get rid of poverty quickly is the development of new industries such as e-commerce. "This is an example worthy of promotion and reference." Kim Yong believes that it is particularly meaningful to help low-income villagers who can't get out of the village to sell agricultural products through e-commerce. It not only takes care of their children to go to school, stabilizes their families, but also helps villagers increase their income.
Jin Yong also said that there are many successful examples in Guizhou from the decisive fight against poverty to the development of digital economy. We should extend the development model that Guizhou can copy and learn from to other countries and regions to benefit more people.
