In the first year of Jingning (33bc), he ascended the throne, indulged in wine and sex, and was barren in political affairs. At the same time, he was under the dictatorship of his relatives, and the great government of the imperial court was under the control of the Empress Dowager Wang family, which buried the root of Wang Mang's usurpation of the Han Dynasty.
He died in the second year of Suihe (the first seven years). He died at the age of 44. His temple title was Tongzong (later removed). His posthumous title was Emperor Xiaocheng. He was buried in Yanling.
Life of the characters
Be cautious when you are young
In the third year of Ganlu (51 BC), Emperor Xuandi of Han Dynasty, Liu Ao was born in the painting Hall of Chang'an Jiaguan. Emperor Xuandi of the Han Dynasty liked his direct grandson very much. He named him Liu Ao (AO is Junma), which is also called TAISUN. He often put him beside him.
In the first year of Huanglong (49 BC), Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty passed away. Liu Ao's father, Liu Xun, succeeded to the throne as emperor yuan of the Han Dynasty. In April of the second year of the Yuan Dynasty (47bc), Liu Ao was made the crown prince. When he was young, Liu Ao loved to read scriptures, like diction, broad and cautious. Once the emperor of the Yuan Dynasty urged Liu Ao, he did not dare to cross the chidao (the emperor's special road) and walked around it. He did not meet the emperor until he was late. After knowing the whole story, emperor yuan of Han Dynasty was very happy and ordered the prince to cross the Chi road directly.
Old age and pleasure
As he grew older, Liu Ao began to indulge in fun all day long, and his mother, the queen, was not favored by the Yuan emperor.
In the fourth year of Jianzhao's reign (35bc), Liu Ao, the prince of Zhongshan, died, and Liu Ao, the crown prince, went to mourn. Liu was the younger brother of emperor yuan of the Han Dynasty and grew up with Liu Ao. When Emperor Hanyuan saw Liu Ao, he was moved to Miss Liu Jing. He couldn't stop his grief, but when Liu Ao arrived, he didn't have a sad expression. Emperor Hanyuan was very angry and said, "where can a person who is not kind and kind but can worship the ancestral temple and be the parents of the common people?" That means Liu Ao doesn't deserve to be a master. Emperor Han Yuan told his favorite minister, Shi Dan, who had been ordered by him to protect the crown prince. Shi Dan took off his hat and apologized to Emperor Han Yuan, saying: "I really see your majesty mourning for the king of Zhongshan, and he is hurt because of his sadness. In the morning, when the prince was ready to meet, he privately told him not to cry, so that his Majesty would not be sad. Sin is in the hands of your subjects, and you should die. " After hearing this, emperor yuan of the Han Dynasty gradually dispelled the meaning of blame.
Emperor yuan wanted to change Liu Kang (the second son of emperor yuan of Han Dynasty and the father of emperor AI's Liu Xin) to the crown prince, because Liu Ao was the son of Emperor Xuan and Stan Li was the crown prince of Liu Ao.
In the first year of Jingning (33bc), emperor yuan of the Han Dynasty was sick and lying in the back palace. Fu Zhaoyi and his son Liu Kang, King Ding Tao, often served in front of the couch, while the empress Wang Zhengjun and Prince Liu Ao rarely met the emperor. Wang Zhengjun and Liu Ao are worried and helpless. At this critical moment, Shi Dan, as a close favorite minister, can go straight into the bedroom to see a doctor. When there is only emperor yuan alone in the bedroom, he breaks into the room alone, falls in front of the emperor yuan's bed and pleads for the prince in tears. Emperor yuan was so soft-hearted that he could not stop wandering. He was moved to see Stan sobbing. He gave a long sigh and said that he would not dethrone the crown prince. After hearing this, Stan had a deep feeling and repeatedly kowtowed to apologize. Emperor yuan of the Han Dynasty continued: "I'm afraid that my illness will not improve. I hope you can help the crown prince and live up to my trust." The status of the crown prince Liu Ao was stabilized.
Inherit the throne
In May of the first year of Jingning (33bc), Emperor Liu Xun of the Han Dynasty collapsed. In June, crown prince Liu Ao succeeded to the throne for emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty. Wang Zhengjun, Liu Ao's mother, was honored as the Empress Dowager. From then on, Wang's family stepped on the political stage of the Western Han Dynasty, which also foreshadowed the chaos of Wang Mang.
The right of relatives
The realization of Wang's power was closely related to Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty. At that time, the influence of Wang's relatives and eunuchs continued to grow, and Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty adopted a series of checks and balances policies.
First of all, Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty used his relatives to attack the eunuch. Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty appointed Shi Xian, a minister of power, as a servant in the long letter, so that he left the center of power and lost his real power. Then Kuang Heng, the prime minister, and Zhang Tan, the imperial censor, jointly disclosed the past crimes of Shi Xian and his party members. Shi Xian was expelled to his hometown and died in the middle of the journey. His servants were also expelled one after another.
Secondly, Emperor chengdi used his relatives and courtiers to restrain another group of relatives. When Emperor Cheng succeeded to the throne, Wang Feng first excluded Feng yewang, the younger brother of Feng Zhaoyi, who was powerful and famous, and then forced Xu Jia, the father of empress Xu, to retire.
Thirdly, Wang Feng excluded the Prime Minister Wang Shang. Wang Wu, the father of Wang Shang, was the uncle of Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty. His cousin Wang Jie was once a general of the grand Sima cavalry. It was also a family of relatives active in the yuan and Cheng dynasties. At that time, the only one who could compete with Wang Feng was Wang Shang. Wang Shang's steady rise in the political arena not only has the family background of his relatives, but also his political insight and ability are not inferior to Wang Feng's. They have different opinions on many issues, and their relationship is gradually tense. Wang Feng conspired with his cousin Shi Dan to secretly investigate Wang Shang's privacy, and instigated Geng dingshangshu, a native of Fuping, Shaanxi Province, to frame Wang Shang. Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty found it difficult to verify, but Wang Feng insisted on investigating and dealing with it. Emperor Cheng had no choice but to remove Wang Shang from his post as prime minister. After only three days of immunity, Wang Shang vomited blood and died of grief and indignation. Their children and relatives who worked in the palace were all expelled from Chang'an city. At this point, Wang Feng autocratic government, there is no strong opposition.
Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty's policy of checks and balances was not successful, and the Empress Dowager Wang's family grew stronger and became the final winner. The seven brothers of the Empress Dowager Wang Zhengjun were all Marquises. The eldest Wang Feng's official position was as high as that of the great general Sima. Wang Mang, Wang Zhengjun's nephew, also began to make his appearance. After Wang Shang's death, the court could no longer control the power of the Wang family. All these created conditions for Wang Mang to usurp the Han Dynasty.
be profligate and devoid of principles
Before succeeding to the throne, Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty was addicted to wine and sex, and became more unscrupulous after he ascended the throne. Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty had a man's pet, Zhang Fang, who was recorded in historical books as "very beautiful in youth and sensitive in nature". Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty was very fond of him. On weekdays, he was very fond of him. He promoted Zhang Fang to Zhonglang general. They often paid private visits together. Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty pretended to be Zhang Fang's family when he went out to play. This shows the extent of Zhang Fang's favor at that time.
This matter caused the dissatisfaction of the courtiers, and all kinds of comments spread to the Empress Dowager Wang Zhengjun's ears. In addition, several uncles fanned the flames, so the Empress Dowager exiled Zhang Fang on a false charge. Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty could not bear the pain of missing Zhang Fang. He called Zhang Fang back to Beijing many times to get together, and then he was forced to exile him. According to historical records, "he often sent Zhang Fang with tears". In addition, Emperor Cheng also wrote letters from thousands of miles. Later, Zhao's sisters, his beloved concubine, were no longer treated. Zhang Fang "died of yearning and crying.".
Since emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty ascended the throne, he spent a lot of money to build Xiaoyou palace, Feifei palace and Yunlei palace for his pleasure. At first, he favored his wife, empress Xu, who had a son and a daughter in 20 years. All of them died young, which caused Wang's group to worry about having no heir and made emperor Cheng of Han Dynasty favor Liugong. Later, empress Xu's lust declined, and Emperor Cheng began to love banjieyu. Ban Jieyu gave birth to a boy and died a few months later. Ban Jieyu is beautiful but not gaudy, beautiful but not vulgar, and knowledgeable in literature and history. She is not jealous of ordinary women. She dedicated her maid Li Pingjin to Emperor Cheng of Han Dynasty. Li Ping was also favored and was named Jieyu. Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty said: "at the beginning, empress Wei of emperor Xiaowu also rose from humble." Therefore, by giving Li Ping the surname "Wei", she became Wei Jieyu.
Flying Swallow
During the reign of emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty, there were several disasters. Liu Xiang, Gu Yong and other ministers all blame empress Xu for her "special favor". As a result, empress Xu's "Pepper room yeting expenses" were reduced, and even the emperor's face was lost in the end. Empress Xu has no way to vent her resentment. Her sister, Mrs. Ping'an Hou, Xu Ye secretly curses the pregnant concubine in the harem. It was revealed by Zhao Feiyan, another favorite imperial concubine of emperor Cheng. Xu ye and other witches were executed. Empress Xu LianZuo was dethroned and later given death.
The empress's position was vacant for two years. Emperor Cheng had the idea of appointing Zhao Feiyan as empress. The Empress Dowager Wang Zhengjun stopped him because of his humble life experience and not being a female marquis. Later, chunyuchang mediated, Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty made Zhao Feiyan's father the Marquis of Chengyang, and Zhao Feiyan became the daughter of the Marquis before she ascended the throne of Queen.
In the first year of Yongshi (16 BC), Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty made Zhao Feiyan queen, and Zhao Hede of the Jin Dynasty Zhao Yi, and gave Zhao Hede the Zhaoyang hall to live alone. In order to thank Chunyu for his mediation, Emperor Cheng granted Chunyu the Marquis of changguan, and soon became Marquis of Dingling.
Swallow pecks the emperor's grandson
In order to please the new empress, Emperor Cheng ordered the craftsmen to build a gorgeous Royal boat called "palace boat" in the Imperial Palace Taiye pool. One day, Emperor Cheng took a boat with a flying swallow to enjoy the scenery. Feiyan is wearing a cloud purple dress and Biqiong light gauze. On the one hand, she sings the song "return to Phoenix and send you far away", and on the other hand, she dances. Emperor Cheng ordered his servant Feng Wufang to play Sheng to match Feiyan's singing and dancing. When the boat reached the middle stream, a strong wind nearly blew Zhao Feiyan down. Feng Wufang was ordered by the emperor to rescue him. He threw away his musical instruments, grabbed the Queen's feet and refused to let go, while Feiyan continued to sing and dance. Since then, the story of "flying swallow can do palm dance" has been spread in the palace.
While Zhao Feiyan was immersed in the glory and power of her mother, she lost her favor. Zhao Hede was favored. He grew up with Zhao Feiyan. He respected his sister very much and protected her in front of emperor Cheng. Therefore, the status of Feiyan was not affected by the emperor's change of favor
