Character evaluation
Li Qiang is widely praised for his accurate depiction of the dignity and loss of the characters in the great era. His insight into human nature, as well as his tender and poetic brushwork full of pain make him one of the most personalized and original writers in the Chinese film industry. (Netease Entertainment review)
The elder sister who dreams of being a paratrooper in peacock, the aunt who yearns for metropolis Shanghai in aunt, and Wang Cailing who yearns to sing in Paris Opera House in spring. The characters in Li Qiang's works have some common characteristics: they are "little people" with dreams in their lives, but they have a lot of ups and downs, the road to dream is rough and difficult, and they finally succumb to life until they are numb to the things they pursue. (Xinhua Online Review)
Most of the female characters in Li Qiang's works are memorable, and telling stories from a woman's perspective is easy to attract and move people (Tencent culture review). The script he wrote is known by the media as "seeing the big from the small, pulling the weight from the small". (Sina entertainment review)
