Life of the characters
Born in poverty
Luo Shengjiao, formerly known as Luo Yucheng, was born in 1931 in a poor peasant family in Xinhua County, Hunan Province. When he was young, he studied in the reform and Wende primary schools. Later, he dropped out of school because of poverty. In the winter of 1945, I went to my uncle's home in SuoLi Town, Qiancheng county. In 1946, he entered the primary school attached to the ninth provincial teachers' College (primary school attached to normal college of Jishou University). In 1947, he was promoted to the ninth provincial teachers' college without examination. After graduation, he was promoted to the senior high school of the 13th provincial middle school and changed his name to Luo Shengjiao.
Because of his poor family, Luo Shengjiao only went to primary school at the age of 11. After only one and a half years, he was out of school. In order to have a bite to eat, his father sent him to become a Taoist. That year, he had to help his 14-year-old uncle run a grocery store in town.
Study hard
In 1949, Yuanling, the hometown of Luo Shengjiao, was liberated. In November of that year, 18-year-old Luo Shengjiao, with the heart of defending his country, invited several students to Yuanling to join the 47th army of the Chinese people's Liberation Army, and was admitted to Xiangxi military and political cadre school. Luo Shengjiao's education level is low, so he feels hard to listen to the class, can't grasp the key points, and can't take notes completely. In order not to fall behind, after class, he would borrow other people's notes, compare them with his own, check and fill in the gaps, and then copy them with a pen. In the process of school construction, it is necessary to carry a tree fallen in the river to the shore to build a bridge. Luo Shengjiao was the first to jump into the cold river. Led by him, the whole class of 20 or 30 students jumped into the river, and finally dragged the tree to the shore and built a bridge.
On February 1, 1950, Luo Shengjiao joined the New Democratic Youth League of China. He graduated in March of the same year and was assigned to study in the document training class of the 47th army. On July 1 of the same year, Luo Shengjiao joined the New Democratic Youth League of China. At the end of the study period, he was sent to reconnoiter directly under the 141st division of the 47th army. The xuansuibu was assigned to Wusu District of Yuanling County and Guzhang County of Hunan Province to join the reconnaissance team directly under the command of the 47th army.
Join the army into Korea
On October 25, 1950, the war to resist US aggression and aid Korea broke out. In response to the call of the party, Luo Shengjiao joined the Chinese people's Volunteer Army in April 1951, and went to Korea with the army as a member of the 141 division reconnaissance team of the 47th army of the volunteer army. In North Korea, he took part in the battle of positional defense in 1951. On the Korean front, he witnessed the heinous crimes committed by the US imperialists against the Korean people, which aroused his great hatred for the aggressors and his deep sympathy for the Korean people. Luo Shengjiao was deeply moved by the deep friendship of the Korean people towards the volunteers. Once, the army was marching on a hailstorm night, but she couldn't see her hand. An old Korean woman stood there in the wind and hailstorm, holding a safety light to light the road for the soldiers, and constantly reminded the volunteers: don't fall into the mud pit. Luo Shengjiao felt that only by taking practical actions to kill the enemy and perform meritorious service can he repay the deep friendship of the Korean people. He asked to go to the front several times, but the instructor always patiently advised him: "your determination is good, but there is a division of labor in revolutionary work. You are doing clerical work, which can guarantee the elimination of the enemy!" Luo Shengjiao worked harder. In addition to successfully completing his duties, he often braved the fire to the front positions to deliver meals for his comrades in arms and rescue the wounded. One day, the mountain village near the company observation post was bombed by US aircraft. He braved the smoke and fire and rescued a Korean woman and a child.
During his stay in Korea, Luo Shengjiao always felt the deep friendship of the Korean people, and he forged a deep friendship with the villagers in Shitian, Chengchuan County, Pingan South Road. He often helps the landlady carry water and chop firewood, and the villagers praise Luo Shengjiao for his kindness.
Save the children
In the early morning of January 2, 1952, Luo Shengjiao and his comrade in arms song Huiyun went to the river to practice throwing grenades. In the middle of winter, the river was covered with thick ice and snow. Four Korean teenagers skated on the oak marsh river near Shitanli, Chengchuan County, South Heian Road, laughing. Suddenly, a cry for help came from there. One of the teenagers, Cui Ying, accidentally fell into the 2.7-meter-deep ice cave. The other three teenagers cried out for help. When Luo Shengjiao came out of the morning exercises, he heard the cry and immediately ran to the place of the accident. He grabbed his hat and threw it on the ground. As he ran, he took off his cotton padded clothes and trousers. In the severe cold of minus 20 ℃, he jumped into the ice cave, dived into the water to look for it and jumped into the glacier. After a long time, Luo Shengjiao came out of the river, took a deep breath and got into the water again. After a while, Luo Shengjiao finally brought Cui Ying out of the water. When Cui Ying climbs up with her arms against the ice, suddenly, the ice collapses again, and the boy falls into the water with ice. After several twists and turns, Luo Shengjiao's whole body turned purple and trembled. It was hard to support him, and his physical strength was almost exhausted. But still with amazing perseverance to dive into the water again, exhausted the last strength, after a long time with the head and shoulder will Cui Ying out of the water. At this time, song Huiyun has dragged a pole to the river. Cui Ying holds the pole and is pulled ashore. People rescued Luo Shengjiao, but Luo Shengjiao was exhausted, unable to surface, and finally sacrificed his young life at the age of 21.
The whole village rushed to the river to mourn the hero's volunteer soldier. The villagers buried Luo Shengjiao in the Buddha cave mountain beside the village.

A memorial Pavilion and a monument of luoshengjiao were built on the mountain, on which was engraved an inscription by Kim Il Sung, President of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea: "the spirit of internationalism of the martyrs of luoshengjiao and the spirit of North Korea" People live together forever. On the May 4th Youth Day in 1950, Luo Shengjiao took a photo in Yuanling County, which read: "May 4th photo taken in Yuanling". Luo sent this photo to his family, which became the last photo of Luo Shengjiao before he died.
In mid November 1953, Luo Dikai, the father of the martyr, arrived in North Korea as a member of the Chinese people's consolation group. Li Chuntian, who was then the assistant of the Logistics Department of a volunteer army, was in charge of reception work and forged a deep friendship with Luo. On November 23, when he left, the old man took out this photo from his pocket and inscribed it to Li Chuntian as a souvenir. It can be seen from the repeated inscriptions on the back of the photo that the old man originally intended to give it to Cui Ying. On the back of the photo, it was written "Ying'er as a memento: your father died on October 23, 1953". As a result, he failed to fulfill his wish and finally gave it to Li Chuntian. On the back of the photo, he added: "Li Chuntian remembers the best son and daughter of the motherland, and the Chinese Volunteer Army wishes victory and health in the future.".
