Theme of the work
love
Some people say that Duras' works show the world of whores, but it is not true. Generally speaking, the characters in Duras' works are idle people who live on the edge of society and have little proper occupation.
The pursuit of absolute love is the main theme in Duras' literary works, and many other themes serve it to some extent. Although Duras once claimed that she did not like talking about love at all, love no longer interested her. But we found that Duras, who was trapped by love, never gave up the pursuit of absolute love. In her later literary creation, especially in lover, absolute love seems to be completely replaced by sex and lust. Duras's view of love is unique. In her spiritual world, love can illuminate people's spirit and senses, open to others through "I", and make the most of herself. Duras knew in his heart that love would not be sent to the door on his own initiative. He had to seek for it by himself, especially absolute love, sometimes only for the first time.
sexual love
Duras chose to return to the original desire, trying to release the original desire of love through sexual love, and return the most primitive happiness of love to human beings. In Duras' view, perhaps this kind of pure desire without moral restraint is the core of love. Duras' frankness of body speech is not only reflected in the sexual love between men and women, but also involved in other more strict taboos, showing a very pioneering attitude in content. Such as the desire for the same sex.
Although Duras's pursuit of desire finally leads to nothingness, her profound point is that her personality is liberated from the morality that tightly binds desire, and gives back to the desperate but eternal desire itself, which makes people retreat and fear the sense of crime is pure and naturally broken, so that people can return to their original joy and continue to explore life freely. The real pain is not desire, but human beings give evil to desire. Among the writers, there are not many descriptions of desire; money and lust, but most of them are neglected, lacking Duras' deep exploration of human nature. What she writes is pure and innocent desire, which is full of life power and beauty. It is true that man is first of all a man with physical reality, and the existence of life is first and always a physical existence. Controlling the release of life will only make life wither, and the desire to exterminate the body means the death of life. Therefore, in Duras' novels, the brilliance of impudence and purity is reflected at the same time, avoiding the usual understanding in thinking, but reaching a wide range in the depth of its penetration
