Anecdotes of characters
Writers who don't want to write
Liang Xiaosheng pointed to the thick stack of manuscripts on the bed and said, "these things are not what I want to do." He's talking about proofreading. A publishing house schemed out an "idea" to collect articles related to this "idea" written by some famous writers and package them into a new collection, including one by Liang Xiaosheng. Liang Xiaosheng said: this kind of patchwork, that kind of patchwork, a collection on the left and a collection on the right. I don't like the books produced in this way. Although Liang Xiaosheng is not happy with this way of gathering, he is seldom satisfied with the books that come out like this. However, when facing some publishers or publishers with good relations, Liang Xiaosheng is a bit impatient, "it's not easy, just agree.".
By 2007, Liang Xiaosheng had created 4 million words of novels, 2 million words of short stories, 2 million words of essays and 2 million words of film and television works. With more than 10 million words, he has become one of the most prolific contemporary writers. For his book, he gave the evaluation is "influential, but not a best seller.". "I can write a best-selling book. I've been writing for such a long time. I know what elements to add and how to operate, and it will sell well, but I don't want to do that."
Teaching without graduate students
Liang Xiaosheng was transferred to Beijing Language and Culture University to teach "literary writing and appreciation". He expressed his attitude as follows: first, he did not teach freshmen, sophomores or seniors; second, he did not bring postgraduates.
According to him, freshmen and sophomores are the two years that most Chinese students need to warm up for "Chinese" in universities. Because the cultural background they grew up in is particularly diverse and miscellaneous, and entertainment is the most attractive. The literature taught in university classes is mostly about the meaning and value. In China, it would be sad if the literature taught in College Chinese class is actually those who are interested in reading. So he often asks his students to "not emphasize what kind of works you like to read and what kind of movies you like to watch, but understand what kind of works you have to read and what kind of movies you have to watch! Because you are not students of any other major, but students of Chinese major. Since Chinese is a major, it has a professional teaching purpose. "
If a senior high school student assiduously reads many literary works from the beginning of junior high school, he is likely to lose in the competition of college entrance examination; and he actually sits in the Chinese class, it often means that he has not read many extracurricular literary works from junior high school to senior high school. Therefore, freshmen and sophomores should also make up some literary books that college Chinese students should have read at least. By the end of the senior year, students of any major, faced with the pressure of taking the postgraduate entrance examination and choosing a job, can hardly keep their mind steady. Therefore, he wisely opened the course of "appreciation and creation" in his junior year. As for graduate students, he thought that whether students who like Chinese and really have the potential of Chinese evaluation and innovation will become his graduate students is decided by fate, not his own choice, so there is no delusion.
Dialogue with Xi Jinping
In April 2015, he took part in the Symposium on literature and art last year, and had a brief communication with Xi Jinping at the meeting. Liang Xiaosheng talked about the exchange with Xi Jinping in an interview.
General Secretary Xi's first words to Liang Xiaosheng were: "Xiaosheng, I am different from the educated youth you wrote about." "I am a person who demands that the greater the pressure, the stronger the will."
Wang Anyi, who is standing next to Liang Xiaosheng, said: "Xiaosheng is just like that." The general secretary laughed. Liang Xiaosheng said, "I think you have two hometowns. Books are your second hometown." Then, the general secretary said, "I hope that writers and artists will make more of our young people have spiritual hometown." This is actually the significance and value of all human literature and art, including literature.
How to understand loneliness
Loneliness is the slow destruction of human nature. Loneliness is relative to people's heart, just like rust is relative to some metal which is easy to rust. But not all metals rust so easily. Gold doesn't rust at all. Stainless steel is also highly resistant to corrosion. As we all know, iron and copper are very easy to rust, like people with weak constitution are very easy to catch cold.
University is a lonely place. The loneliness of university lies in the phenomenon that many students pursue fashion and entertainment. So they are eager to listen to people other than the teacher to talk to them, no matter what that person does, even if a prisoner confesses in public. It seems that the more topics irrelevant to their major, the more active their enthusiasm for participation. Because it is at that time that the loneliness in their heart gets a chance to release a little.
Loneliness has a deeper definition, that is, what you do from morning till night is not what you are most interested in; what you always say from morning till night, but few of them are what you want to say most; even if you change this situation, it is still the same in another new situation, and you know it better than anyone else. If such a person has no memories in his heart and no thoughts in his mind, his or her humanity will soon rust from the appearance to the middle.
The most valuable ability that knowledge gives intellectuals is the ability of thinking. Because by the power of thought, no matter what kind of isolation you are placed in
