Mei Baojiu

Mei Baojiu (March 29, 1934 to April 25, 2016), whose ancestral home is Taizhou, Jiangsu Province, was born in Sinan Road, Shanghai. He is a Peking Opera actor and a national first-class actor.

Mei Baojiu is the ninth child of Mei Lanfang, the master of Peking Opera. He is the successor of Mei school and the former head of Mei Lanfang's Peking Opera Troupe.

His masterpieces include farewell my concubine, drunken concubine, Mu Guiying in command, Taizhen waizhuan, Luoshen, Xishi, etc.

At about 11 am on April 25, 2016, Peking Opera master Mei Baojiu died of illness at the age of 82.

Personal life

Mei Baojiu's wife, Lin Liyuan, is an art consultant of Mei Lanfang's Peking Opera Troupe. They have no children. Mei Baojiu's father, Mei Lanfang, is a master of Peking Opera, and his mother, Fu Zhifang, is a Manchu. He studied arts since childhood and majored in Tsing Yi. Mei Baojiu is the oldest and youngest of the nine brothers and sisters in the family. Five of them died in childhood, leaving three men and one woman, the eldest brother Mei Baochen and the second brother Mei Shaowu. My sister Mei Baoyue is a Beijing Opera veteran.
