Early experience
Hou Xiaoxian was born on April 8, 1947 in Meixian, Guangdong Province. When he was 4 months old, he moved to Taiwan with his family. He wanted to live as a guest for several years, but he could not return to his hometown due to political reasons. After several places, his family settled in Fengshan, Kaohsiung. After he failed in the joint college entrance examination, Hou Xiaoxian enlisted in the military service in 1966. During this period, he watched a British film crossroads, and decided to enter the film industry. In 1969, Hou Xiaoxian, who finished his military service, was admitted to the film department of the National Academy of Arts. In 1972, after graduation, Hou Xiaoxian failed to enter the film industry. In eight or nine months, he could only work as a computer salesman.
Acting experience

Personal life
Hou's father, a former director of education in Meixian County, Guangdong Province, died at the age of 12. His mother died when he was 17, and his grandmother died when he was 18. Hou Xiaoxian also has a brother and a sister.
Hou Xiaoxian's wife is Cao Baofeng, and they have a daughter, Hou Yunhua. She majored in theater design at Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania. After returning to Taiwan, she became the cooperation and integration manager of Taiwan Film Culture Association. On January 26, 2007, she married Cai Junfei, the son of CAI Guanlun, the former leader of Sihai gang.
