Li Kaifu
Li Kaifu was born on December 3, 1961 in Zhonghe District, Xinbei City, Taiwan Province. His ancestral home is Chengdu, Sichuan Province. Now he has moved to Beijing.
Li Kaifu studied at Carnegie Mellon University with a doctorate in computer science and later served as an associate professor. He is an information industry manager, entrepreneur and computer science researcher. He has held important positions in many IT companies such as apple, SGI, Microsoft and Google. After leaving Google in September 2009, he founded Innovation workshop and served as chairman and CEO.
In September 2013, Li Kaifu announced that he was suffering from lymphatic cancer. On October 21, 2013, it was said that several indexes of physical examination results after recent chemotherapy did not decrease but increased, so it is necessary to follow the doctor's advice more strictly and focus on treatment and recuperation. Early experience
In 1966, Li Kaifu studied in Taiwan's primary school. In 1972, he followed his brother to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to study in junior high school and high school. In 1983, he graduated from the Department of computer science at Columbia University. In 1988, he received a doctor's degree in the Department of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University. In that year, he was awarded the "most important scientific innovation award" by business week.
After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University with a doctor's degree in computer science, Li Kaifu worked as an assistant professor in Carnegie Mellon University. In his Chinese autobiography, Li Kaifu translated him into an associate professor, which caused great controversy. In fact, associate professor is an assistant professor and associate professor is an associate professor.
From 1990 to 1996, Li Kaifu successively served as manager of voice group, director of multimedia laboratory and global vice president of interactive multimedia department in Apple computer company.
From 1996 to 1998, Li Kaifu served as vice president and general manager of Internet department in SGI computer company, a silicon valley graphics company, and President of Cosmo software company, responsible for the research and development of multi platform, Internet 3D graphics and multimedia software.
Join Microsoft
In July 1998, Li Kaifu joined Microsoft and founded and led Microsoft China Research Institute (now Microsoft Asia Research Institute) in China. In a very short period of time, he created a world-class computer research institute. The laboratory was once rated as "the most popular computer laboratory" by MIT technical review.
Li Kaifu was vice president of Microsoft's natural interactive software and Services Department, responsible for developing various advanced technologies and services to make the human-computer interface more simple and natural. The technologies and products developed by the Department include voice, natural language, new search and online services. The mission of natural interactive software and services is to make all these technologies better serve Microsoft's customers.
Under the leadership of Li Kaifu, Microsoft China Research Institute has carried out basic research in the main direction of new generation multimedia, new generation user interface and new generation information processing technology. Later, Lee Kai Fu was transferred back to the United States by Microsoft and served as Microsoft's global vice president in 2000. In 2002, Li Kaifu was selected as a fellow of the Institute of electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
Move to Google
On July 19, 2005, Google announced that it would set up a product R & D center in China. Li Kaifu will be responsible for the operation of its R & D center in China, and will serve as Google's global vice president and President of Greater China. On the same day, Microsoft filed a lawsuit in Washington District Court, accusing Google and former Microsoft Global Vice President Lee Kai Fu of violating the non compete agreement. On September 13, 2005, the U.S. golden County High Court ruled on Li Kaifu's violation of the non competition agreement: Li Kaifu can work for Google immediately, but the scope of his work will be limited. This restriction was in effect until the trial in January 2006. On December 22, 2005, Microsoft terminated its lawsuit against Google and Lee Kai Fu. Microsoft, Lee Kai Fu and Google have reached a non-public agreement on their lawsuit to solve various problems, and all parties are satisfied with the agreement.
Leaving to set up Innovation workshop
On September 4, 2009, Lee Kai Fu, Google's global vice president and President of Greater China, will officially leave today.
On September 7, 2009, Li Kaifu announced the establishment of "Innovation workshop".
Li Kaifu first received the support of Peter Liu, chairman of China Economic Cooperation Group, and then visited 12 investors within a week, including Liu Chuanzhi, President of Lenovo holdings, Gou Taiming, chairman of Hon Hai group, Yu Minhong, chairman of New Oriental Group, and Chen Shijun, founder of Youtube. In addition to Chen Shijun's personal investment, the first three have all stepped in as institutional investors on behalf of the company, raising a total of nine investment shareholders' investment, thus creating a platform of angel investment + innovative products and teams, called "Innovation workshop", to open up a new mode of venture capital and Entrepreneurship in China. The main areas are related to the Internet, mobile Internet and cloud computing.

In July 2004, Li Kaifu founded "I study net" to help young students grow up.
In February 2010, the Innovation workshop helped the first college student to start a business successfully.
Li Kaifu's close contact with Chinese college students began in 1990, when he was invited by the United Nations to speak in China for two weeks. In order to help Chinese college students, Li Kaifu founded Kaifu Student Network. Later, in order to reduce the personal color of the website, he renamed it "I study network".
Since 2000, Li Kaifu has successively published seven letters to Chinese students, which are: a letter to Chinese students: starting from honesty, a second letter to Chinese students: from excellence to excellence, a third letter to Chinese students: success, self-confidence and happiness, a fourth letter to Chinese students: how to spend four years in University, and a letter to Chinese students The fifth letter to Chinese students: you have the right to choose, the sixth letter to Chinese students: the wisdom of choice, and the seventh letter to Chinese students: seven kinds of talents most needed in the 21st century. They respectively talked about honesty, how to go from excellence to excellence, the intelligence of choice, and the concept of talents in the new century.
Open letter of appointment
On November 30, 2011, in response to Fang Zhouzi's continuous questioning of Li Kaifu's title, Li Kaifu released a statement and letter of appointment from Carnegie Mellon University through microblog. Li Kaifu said that these documents show that he will stay in the university after graduation as a research faculty (RCS) and then as an assistant professor (AP); in addition to the teaching responsibilities, the two functions are similar, and the length of service can be included in the tenure.
Based on the document, Li Kaifu added that the "26 year old associate professor" described in his autobiography does not match the fact that he was 28 years old when he was working as an AP, which he "deeply regrets" and will be revised in the next edition of his autobiography.
Microblog boycott is up to you
Li Kaifu, CEO of Innovation workshop, launched a vote on Weibo in 2012, proposing to boycott "it's up to you" programs. Li Kaifu said that the interviewer and host of the show are superior, strong and mean, and the job seekers are already weak. As of June 6, 2012, more than 400000 netizens have supported the forwarding, and 95% of the voters support the boycott of "it's up to you" programs.

Suffering from cancer
At about 22:00 on September 5, 2013, Li Kaifu posted a message on his microblog, suggesting that he suffered from lymphatic cancer. This message was later confirmed by Innovation workshop, saying that Li Kaifu might suffer from lymphatic cancer because of "too much pressure to stay up late". As soon as this message is sent out, it will get the health blessing of many netizens on Weibo in a short time.
Li Kaifu's case of lymphatic cancer has aroused widespread concern on Weibo. Although suffering from illness, Li Kaifu's positive and optimistic attitude has been praised by many netizens.
