Historical Origin

Xiabaoping Township, Yiling District, Yichang City, Hubei Province, is located in the high mountains on the North Bank of Xiling Gorge of the Yangtze River. Xiabaoping story is the epitome of traditional folk literature in the Three Gorges area. The traditional folk literature here has a long history and has gone through the fusion period of ancient Jingchu culture and Bashu culture. Xiabaoping Township, because of its special geographical, economic, cultural and historical conditions, constitutes a special environment suitable for the growth and inheritance of traditional folk culture. There are more than 2,000 traditional folk stories, and almost all the people in the countryside can tell stories.

In addition, Yang Wanzhou's collection of folk songs "Yeshan Drum Ci" and "Xiabaoping Folk Stories Collection" have been compiled.
