Dong Fei, born on May 4 in Hanbin District, Ankang City, Shaanxi Province, is the third generation descendant of the Mei school. He holds a master's degree in drama of the Chinese Academy of Arts. He once worked in the National Peking opera academy of China and served as a Chinese culture volunteer of the Ministry of culture and tourism. He learned Chinese opera when he was young. In 2005, Li Yufang, a disciple of Mei Lanfang, learned from Kunqu artists Zhang Jiqing and Gu Weiying. He was the first person to revive Kunqu male Dan art in China.
In 2019, Dong Fei will become the double champion of CCTV's "Avenue of stars" weekly and monthly competitions.
His starring works include Bandong YUSHIRO's Kunqu Opera "Peony Pavilion" of Sino Japanese cooperation, Kunqu Opera "Peony Pavilion" of Royal granary hall, Kunqu Opera "lianxiangban" of Guan Jinpeng, and Beijing Opera "dengguanyouliugui". From March 6 to 26, 2008, "Peony Pavilion" continued to perform in Kyoto, Japan for nearly a month. 60000 tickets were sold out before the whole troupe went to Japan, setting the highest price for Chinese troupes to perform in Japan.
