Character evaluation
Although Lu Xuechang's films have unique personality and temperament, they are simple and unadorned. In fact, his first long film "growing up" is a juvenile growth history, which spans more than 20 years. Lu Xuechang tries to show his generation's thinking and love for life, and the simple painting contains thinking about life and caring for humanity. Despite his brilliant and influential works, Lu Xuechang is extremely low-key. Many ordinary audiences think he is an "underground director". (Tencent Entertainment review) in his career of more than 20 years, Lu Xuechang has left few works, but they all maintain a unique perspective and personality. He focuses on human dignity and spiritual salvation in the era of money worship. His works are good at cold and profound humanistic care, focusing on the survival plight of the marginal vulnerable groups, uncovering the spiritual and human pain, He inherits the realism tradition of left-wing films and echoes with Italian Neo realism films. He tries to express their thinking and love for life, their thinking about life and their concern for humanity with simple pictures. The study of painting major and the training of comic drawing also make Lu Xuechang's films always have the temperament of classical oil painting. (Sohu Entertainment review)
