Shao Renmei

Shao Renmei (1901-march 2, 1985), a film entrepreneur, was born in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province.

Shao Renmei ranks third in the family, and his sixth brother is Run Run Shaw. In 1930, Shao Renmei and run run run established Shao brothers company in Singapore to manage a number of cinemas and film distribution. In 1958, Shaw Brothers (Hong Kong) Limited was established in Hong Kong. The University of Hong Kong has a Shao Renmei building to commemorate the donation of the Shao family to the University.

Life figures

In 1924, Shao ZUIWENG founded Tianyi film company. Shao ZUIWENG was a producer and director; the second was a screenwriter; the third was a screenwriter and film distributor; and the youngest, Shao Yifu, was a photographer with the help of his third brother. It's called "fat water doesn't flow to outsiders". All the profits go to the family account. The company's paternalistic management shortens the production cycle to the greatest extent, so the film has a strong competitiveness. In 1926, Shao Renmei took Shaw to Singapore to explore the Nanyang film market. In 1930, Shao Renmei and run run run established "Shaw Brothers Company" in Singapore to operate a number of cinemas and film distribution. By the eve of the Anti Japanese war in 1937, Shaw had more than 110 cinemas and 9 playgrounds in Singapore, Malaysia, Java, Vietnam and other places, and established a complete film distribution network to dominate the Southeast Asian film market. "Shao brothers company" and "Tianyi company" echo north and south, work together to build Shao's film kingdom. After the July 7th incident in 1937, due to the barbaric invasion of Japanese imperialism, Shao's film industry suffered a serious blow, suffered a miserable business, and finally was forced to close down. In 1950, Shao Tsuen acquired Nanyang film company and established "Shao's father and son company" (SS). In 1958, Shaw Brothers (Hong Kong) Limited (sb) was established in Hong Kong with his sixth brother, Run Run Run Shaw. Since then, Shaw father and son company has been in charge of theater and film distribution, and Shaw Brothers Company has been in charge of production. He has dominated the Hong Kong film market for more than 20 years. On March 2, 1985, Shao Renmei died of illness. The University of Hong Kong has a Shao Renmei building in memory of the Shao family's donation to the University.
