He recalled that the shooting of "the showdown" took more than a year, and the serious attitude of the creators towards the film was hard to see in the process of other films. The director has a high demand for shots, so the number of shots completed every day is much less than that of ordinary movies. Shi Chongren's plays were mainly shot in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanxi and other places in the Pingjin campaign.

When shooting a circus, it's common to run back and forth four or five times. Before the shooting, the cast of "decisive battle" also had a month's intensive study in the Academy of Military Sciences. The main content was to learn the instructions of the military leaders at that time, the telegrams during the campaign, the introduction of the campaign and other historical materials, so as to prepare for the early stage of shooting. Nie Rongzhen's nephew is working in the Academy of Military Sciences. He took the initiative to contact Shi Chongren, hoping to meet him. After the meeting, he was very satisfied with Shi Chongren's modeling, contacted "Nie ban" and provided him with some personal information of Marshal Nie Rongzhen, including "Nie Rongzhen's memoirs", "memorabilia" and a picture album photo. The provision of these precious materials played a great role in Shi Chongren's role-playing. Of course, the most unforgettable thing for Shi Chongren is that he was personally received by Marshal Nie Rongzhen during the film shooting. The marshal was 90 years old. Shi Chongren still remembers that when Marshal Nie Rongzhen saw him, he said with a Sichuan accent: "like, like, it's really interesting."

After that, Shi Chongren also played the role of Nie Rongzhen in the TV series "China Shenhuo" and the film "Deng Xiaoping". And he has become a rare special actor in the film industry who has been interviewed and recognized by me. Unfortunately, in 1992, marshal Nie Rongzhen died before the film premiere. After the premiere, Shi Chongren came to marshal Nie Rongzhen's home. Shi Chongren burst into tears when he saw the worn out sofa and the off painted desk in the Marshal's office.
