Zhang Min
Zhang Min, formerly known as Xie Xing and Xie Yunxin, male, Han nationality, from Emei City, Sichuan Province, was born in February 1906 and died in February 1975. Before he died, he was vice president, President and party secretary of Beijing Film Academy.
In 1925, Zhang run studied drama in Beiping art college. He met Chen Yi in the student movement and joined the Communist Party of China in 1926. The following year, he was arrested and jailed for taking part in the anti imperialist patriotic March and petition led by Li Dazhao, and he lost the relationship with the party. Later, he was released by Bao Na, the president of the art college. He graduated from the drama department of Art College of Peking University in 1929. His graduation thesis on mayatt's Theatre view was highly praised by Xiong Foshi, the director of the Department, and was published.
In 1931, Zhang Min participated in the Chinese left wing drama Federation in Shanghai and was elected as the executive member. He was re admitted in 1932
Communist Party of China. After the arrest of the party secretary of the left wing drama Federation, he, together with Yu Ling and Zhang Geng, presided over the work of the drama Federation. In 1935, he was the director of the editorial department of the drama Federation.
In the autumn of 1931, he directed the play put down your whip written by Chen Liting after its first performance in China. Zhang Min also introduced foreign classical dramas with strong anti feudal consciousness, and successively directed such dramas as "Nora", "imperial envoy", "Thunderstorm", "Romeo and Juliet". These performances have achieved great success, which has greatly promoted the development of drama. During his stay in Shanghai, Zhang Min also created one act and multi act plays such as abandoned child and battle, wrote treatises such as on comedy, on tragedy and the establishment of drama criticism, and translated works such as the basis of film performance, the essence of drama and the rules of drama. In cooperation with Ge Yihong, he founded the drama theory journal new drama. Later, the magazine was ordered to stop by Kuomintang reactionaries.
After the Anti Japanese War, Zhang Min took an active part in the struggle against Japanese imperialist aggression. From 1938 to 1945, he directed "luminous cup", "Professor Mamen", "our hometown", "dark laughter", and "Beijinger", "home", "peacock gall", "Tianguo Chunqiu" in Guilin, Wuhan, Hong Kong, Chongqing and other places, and created a series of anti feudalism, anti imperialist aggression and reflecting people's disease Bitter plays, such as "our hometown", "home in the northeast", "snow night", "life", "death line", "night", "expectation", "bitter love" and so on. At the same time, he also wrote such monographs as workers and peasants acting during the war, and what kind of weapon acting is. During this period, he also made a lot of achievements in translation. Together with Zheng Junli, he co translated Volume I of Stanislavsky's actor's self recuperation, which is one of the earliest advanced drama theory books introduced and disseminated in China. He also co translated film director foundation with Wan Laitian.
During this period, Zhang Min worked as a teacher in Chengdu provincial drama college, Chongqing Yucai School and Sichuan Jiang'an national drama college. He also worked in the drama group of the Cultural Work Committee presided over by Guo Moruo, and was also the director of China Film Studio.
After the surrender of Japan in 1945. Zhang Min directed the true story of Ah Q in Hong Kong. In 1945, he adapted his multi act drama "bitter love" into the screenplay "white Bi in the world of mortals", which was later moved to the screen by director Cheng Bugao. Since 1948, he has directed or directed such feature films as "marriage", "quiet Jialing River", "winter goes to spring", etc., and created the scripts "tiger", "night in the village" and "hunger" which expose the cruel oppression of the Kuomintang reactionaries' rule and the poverty of the people; he also wrote the book "director and actor".
After the birth of the people's Republic of China, Zhang Min was appointed deputy director of the Art Committee of the central film administration in 1950, and was successively elected director of the all China Federation of literary and art circles and director of the China film workers' Association. During this period, he directed the drama "the Russian problem" and "in front of new things" for the experimental theatre and the Youth Art Theatre. In 1954, he went to the Soviet Union to investigate the film education. He took part in the preparatory work of the film academy in 1955 and the establishment of Beijing Film Academy in 1956. He successively served as the first vice president, Secretary of the Party committee and president.
In the era of film education, Zhang Min has always attached great importance to the cultivation of teachers and the education of students' Outlook on life and art. He emphasized that the film education of the Soviet Union should not be copied blindly, but should be combined with the reality of China. In addition to his overall work in the college, he is also in charge of the teaching of the director and performance department. He not only often goes to the classroom to give timely guidance, but also actively cultivates teachers. He writes his extensive subject knowledge and rich experience in art practice into a special lecture outline for the teachers of the director and performance department. His earnest and rigorous style, not for fame and wealth, not empty talk, set an example for the teaching construction and art research of the whole college.
Zhang Min has directed nearly 50 plays, created more than 40 plays, and written and translated a large number of theoretical works on drama and film, about 3 million words. There are 16 selected works published.
