Character evaluation
The reason why Qiongyao's works will not be out of date is that the theme of her works will never be out of date love (comments by columnist Huang Tong). Qiongyao's adapted plays capture the theme of love (commented by columnist Yang Jinlin). In Qiongyao's works, the characters don't have to worry about food and clothing, and they are obsessed with emotion (commented by writer Wang Anyi). One of the characteristics of Qiongyao's novels is poetic and picturesque and beautiful artistic conception. The use of a large number of poems and odes makes the original popular romance novels have the extraordinary elegant temperament (Yangcheng Evening News Review). Although most of the female images in Qiongyao's works have personality and independent consciousness, some of her gender concepts are still relatively traditional: women can not be beautiful, but they must be young; women who can not be loved by men are not good women (comments by Lin Fangmei, a Taiwan scholar).
Although on the whole, Qiongyao's works have different ideological achievements and standards, there are quite a number of works with positive and profound ideological connotation. The works of misty rain, a few red sunsets, and a red bean are all shining on the theme. For example, "misty rain" integrates marriage and love into history. It reflects the turbulent and changing history of China for decades from one side with the rise and fall of Lu Zhenhua's family, which once prevailed in most of China, and objectively shows the inevitable track of historical progress (review of general history of Chinese Literature). Qiongyao's novels are in line with everyone's most simple and primitive desire. Although the story has an obvious tendency of stylization and can only be read once, the spiritual core can make every work achieve the goal of making people happy
