Character evaluation
Yi Zhiyan is an author director with distinct personality and unique style. Under the entertainment stories and aesthetic images, social expression is the spiritual core. The construction of space in the film has a prominent characteristic of "heterogeneous space". His works are basically independent productions with the integration of editing and directing and independent financing. For him, film is a kind of unique "discourse power" and "voice way", which can be integrated with the distinct consciousness of thinking and exploration of the author, especially in the field of youth film, which he is good at. His films also inherit the creative route of Taiwan youth films. Most of his films take the youth type as the shape, and take the youth's learning, life, emotion and other experiences in the process of growing up as the theme. He unfolds the story telling with the youth campus as the main space and the growth, love, friendship as the important theme. At the same time, he boldly breaks through the established concept and integrates comedy into the framework of youth type Rich type elements, strengthen the description of the status quo and the psychological connotation of the youth role, and strive to explore in the emotional orientation, realistic issues, social value and other multi-dimensional levels, innovative definition of the new Taiwan Youth Film (Contemporary Film Review).
