Early experience
In 1945, at the age of six, Liu Xun began to study Peking Opera and entered a professional class specializing in Peking Opera. Because there was no formal school at that time, he just studied Peking Opera with his master. He was also taught by Li Wanchun, Shang Heyu, Zhang Dejun, Li Shaochun and Gai jiaotian. At the age of 14, he also performed in foreign countries on behalf of the Chinese Art Troupe. In 1958, at the age of 19, he graduated from school and was assigned to the Peking opera academy of China to teach. After that, he performed in different places in China, made model operas, and experienced the cultural revolution. In 1980, he came to Hong Kong because he was dissatisfied with the bureaucratic atmosphere at that time. After going to Hong Kong, Liu Xun worked as a lecturer in the Hong Kong Academy for performing arts and engaged in Cantonese opera research. You Shengpu, Luo Jiaying, Li Qifeng, Chen Haofu, li long, Yin Feiyan and Chen Jiaming were all under his guidance.
Acting experience
In 1986, he served as a drama director in Tsui Hark's film Dao Ma Dan, and has been associated with the film ever since.
