Bu wancang (1903-1974), a native of bujiaying, Jingting village, Yuxing Township, Tianchang county (now Jinji Town, Tianchang City), was born in 1903 and grew up in Yangzhou. After his father died, he returned to Yuxing with his mother.

In 1921, after her mother died, she lived as her elder brother, and then sold off her property to make a living in Shanghai. First he was an apprentice in the film industry, then he learned photography from cameraman of China Film Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and American expatriate gorkin, and shot the funny short film "the bucket of rice" together. In January of the 13th year of the Republic of China, he joined China Film Company as a photographer and produced the first film "people's heart" for the company. Later, he transferred to pan star film company and made "new people's family".

In the 15th year of the Republic of China, Minxin film company founded by Li Minwei and others moved from Guangzhou to Shanghai. Bu wancang was invited to direct "jade is clean and ice is clear", which is his first work. With the success of the film, the protagonist Zhang Zhiyun won the title of "movie queen" in one fell swoop, and he himself ended his career as a photographer. Soon after, bu wancang was hired as the director of star company at the request of Zhang Shichuan. After the "12.8" incident in the 21st year of the Republic of China, the appearance of martial arts and thigh show in Chinese film industry has changed greatly. With the enthusiastic help and guidance of the Communist Party of China and left-wing film workers, bu wancang stepped into the ranks of publicizing the progressive revolutionary movement. In February of the Republic of China, the China Film Culture Association was established, and bu wancang was elected as the executive member. During this period, great changes have taken place in his thinking and creative outlook. In cooperation with Tian Han, he has successively launched progressive works such as "spring dream of the old capital", "three modern women" and "light of motherhood". Among them, "three modern women" is considered to be one of the first outstanding films of the left-wing film movement. Together with "torrent", it is known as "the sprout of a great future, throwing several strong bombs on the masses." The light of motherhood was once banned in Guangzhou and other places because of its progressive tendency. In November of the same year, the so-called "Shanghai film industry Communist Party" smashed the Yihua company and "warned" that all cinemas in Shanghai were not allowed to show films directed, written and starred by Tian Han, Shen Ruixian, bu wancang, etc. "otherwise, they would have to deal with it by violence." Bu wancang did not flinch. He insisted on shooting progressive films such as "golden age", "song of triumph" and "new humanity" for Yihua company, which inspired the people's spirit of uniting in the war of resistance against Japan. In January of the 25th year of the Republic of China, he also participated in the establishment of the Shanghai film industry congress.

In the 26th year of the Republic of China, the gunfire of "August 13" burned all over the areas outside the Shanghai concession. The concession became an "isolated island", and the political environment was even more dangerous. Bu wancang insisted on making progress and directed more than 10 films in Zhang Shankun's Xinhua (Huaxin, Huacheng) film company, including beggars' gold, Diao Chan, Qingtian Xuelei, Mulan joining the army, Xishi, Biyu Zan, suwu shepherd, Qin Liangyu, night rain in Xiaoxiang, Ningwu pass, Xiangsi village, yeqiang and home, most of which are historical themes and are widely used in the past, It shows the enthusiasm of patriotism. In particular, "Mulan joins the army" is praised by the audience as "giving China a great strength at this stage through history. It tells us how to fight and how to win". The film continued to be released for decades, but it was still full, causing a great sensation.

At the end of the 30 years of the Republic of China, the Pacific War broke out, and the Shanghai concession was also occupied by the Japanese. With the company, bu wancang joined China United Film Co., Ltd. and China Film Co., Ltd. successively, producing "see guangpan again", "fraternity", "Fisherman's daughter" and "a dream of Red Mansions", etc., and directing many stage plays in Chengdu, Chongqing and other places.

In the 37th year of the Republic of China, bu wancang moved to Hong Kong. As the chief director, he spent nearly two years and more than a million dollars shooting "the soul of the nation" for Yonghua film company, and then made "the story of gratitude and hatred in Daliang Mountain".

In 1951, bu wancang founded Taishan film company, and successively produced women and tigers, lady pictures, women's hearts, seven sisters and other films, and developed and cultivated a large number of famous movie stars, such as Shi Hui, Ge Lan, Li Yi, Zhong Qing, etc. After 1953, he also directed "blue blood and yellow flowers", "long lane" and "wandering of bitter children". In 1963, bu wancang finished his last work Zhao Wuniang, which was in his 60s. He has been a filmmaker for more than 40 years, making more than 50 films.

After the movie, bu wancang became a TV director. In 1966, Hong Kong Lidi TV station founded the first TV music art training class. As a director and instructor, bu wancang discovered and personally trained Xi Xiulan, who later became a famous singer, and made her become a popular "Queen of folk songs".

In 1974, bu wancang died of illness in Hong Kong.
