Film evaluation
The film won the "Art Award" at Berlin International Film Festival and the "best director" award at Palm Spring International Film Festival.
Cui Yan, a Canadian Chinese woman director, reveals the Chinese mainland by the movie "falling bird".
Falling birds
The sexual transgression of foreign students and new immigrants.
Cui Yan can hardly be avoided by her own comments. Her film is nothing in common with the Joy Luck Club and the wedding banquet because it shows the true style of Chinese mainland immigrants from the perspective of sexual psychology. She believes that one of the most obvious multiple problems of hundreds of thousands of Chinese immigrants in the collision of the two cultures is the sexual problem, and her works are just trying to dig out this kind of unforgettable sexual problem from the deep. According to Cui Yan, chocolate is not a Chinese specialty, but a symbol of Western lifestyle in China. In western countries, chocolate has always been associated with sex and love. Scientists have even proved that chocolate can cause subtle chemical reactions and increase the pleasure of sex.
Based on the bizarre life of two Beijing women after they came down to Toronto like a fallen bird, the film shows their bold pursuit of sex while they are far away from political constraints and moral norms and struggling to make a living. Lin Na, the heroine and dancer in the film, takes "throwing herself into arms and selling her body" as the only way to make a living in the west, while Meng Xing, the other heroine, takes "sex as a tool to vent her depression and relieve her pain". This article also reveals the "sexual concept" and "sexual behavior" of Chinese people living in the mainland of the United States under the new living conditions from different angles.
The author emphasizes that the students from Chinese mainland understand sexual freedom, which is the first lesson to understand western culture.
