Xiao Xiang (1871-1940), named qiushu, was born in Wulong sub Prefecture, Fulong District, Chongqing (now Xiangkou Town, Wulong District, Chongqing). He was a Jinshi in 1903 and a member of the alliance. He was once the vice president of Sichuan consultative Bureau in Qing Dynasty.
Life of the characters
In 1902, he was elected to the imperial examination. In 1903, he became a Jinshi and was appointed the head of the Ministry of punishment. Later, he was sent by the Qing government to study in the University of law and politics of Japan. During this period, Xiao Xiang met Liang Qichao, and they became friends at first sight. Soon after, Xiao Xiang joined the alliance led by Dr. Sun Yat sen in Japan and actively participated in various activities of the alliance. In 1906, with the support of Liang Qichao, Xiao Xiang and Pu Dianjun initiated the establishment of "Sichuan Han railway Improvement Association" in Tokyo, Japan, demanding the Qing government to change the official Sichuan Han railway into a commercial one. Xiao Xiang also wrote articles such as a detailed discussion on refuting the misappropriation of the Tongyuan Bureau, which laid the ideological foundation for the later establishment of the "road protection comrades Association" and the road protection movement. After the establishment of the Sichuan consultative Bureau, Xiao Xiang became a member of the board of directors and vice president of the Sichuan consultative Bureau after returning to China. He advocated Zhang Lixian and founded Sichuan Daily, the organ newspaper of the Sichuan Advisory Council. After the outbreak of the movement, Xiao Xiang, as the Liaison Representative of the movement in Beijing, petitioned the Qing government. As a result, he was detained in Wuchang until the Wuchang Uprising. In the autumn of 1923, he left politics and returned to Fuling, where he settled in yangjiayuan, Jiangdong, Fuling City. Xiao Xiang set up his first library in Fuling, Fuling ancient library, and donated all his thousands of books to the library. In January 1940, Xiao Xiang died of illness and indignation at the age of 70. It was buried in the Tiantai area of Fuling District, behind the ridge on the East Bank of Wujiang River in Fuling City.
