Yao Yulan is the eldest daughter and actor of Xiao Lanying, a Beijing Opera veteran, and Yao Changhai, a Bangzi singer.

Life of the characters

Yao Yulan studied art in Hankou at the age of 9 and formally performed at the age of 12.

When she was 14 years old, she came to Yantai to perform, and her sister Yao Yuying also graduated. They performed "Hongni pass" at the same time, singing Wang bodang and Dongfang's; in the two books, they changed roles, playing maid and Dongfang's respectively.

On August 20, 1922, Meng Xiaodong, his master Qiu Yuexiang and Hu Qin Master Sun zuochen went to Hankou from Shanghai to perform. During the performance, he met Yao Yulan, an old woman, and married Jin Lan.

In a performance in Shanghai, both Yao Yulan and her sister Yao Yuying were taken in by Du Yuesheng, and they took possession of them. Soon, Yao Yuying died, and Yao Yulan followed Du Yuesheng all the time.

In 1928, she married Du Yuesheng, the leader of Shanghai Tan Qing Gang, as the fourth wife.

On April 27, 1949, Du Yuesheng, Meng Xiaodong and Yao Yulan went to Hong Kong by boat.

In September 1967, Meng Xiaodong accepted Yao Yulan's invitation to settle in Taiwan by boat from Hong Kong.
