In 1942, he joined the Eighth Route Army in Shandong Province and served as a member of the cultural and industrial Corps.
He joined the Communist Party of China in 1946. Later, he served as the vice captain of the literature and art propaganda brigade of the Political Department of the 35th army of the seventh corps of the third field army. He has performed nearly 20 operas, drama and Beijing opera.
After 1949, he became an actor in Beijing Film Studio.
