One day in September 1950, more than three months before his 13th birthday, Deng Zaijun made an amazing move: without telling his parents and family, he carried a schoolbag to catch up with a certain division and regiment led by division commander Li Desheng, who had lived in their village, and became the youngest female soldier in the propaganda team of the regiment. Shortly after the Korean War broke out, Deng Zaijun's division was ordered to participate in the war to resist U.S. aggression and aid Korea. Because she was less than 13 years old, she was left in China, assigned to the cultural and engineering team of the Logistics Department of the Southwest Military Region, and then merged into the cultural and Engineering Corps of the Logistics Department of the military region.
