Characters and deeds
Major general Lin bin, commander of the 184th division of the 62nd Army
During the war of liberation, the 184th division of the 62nd army was the 43rd brigade of the 15th column of the first corps of the North China military region. As the commander of the 43rd brigade, Lin bin led his troops to participate in the Taiyuan campaign. In late October 1948, when attacking NAOMA stronghold, one of the "four fortresses" outside Taiyuan, the 43rd brigade failed in several attacks. Lin bin then organized forward reconnaissance, studied the terrain, and decided to organize a commando unit with the 129th regiment to concentrate the artillery fire to cover the attack of the commando. After the battle began, the 43rd brigade concentrated its artillery fire on the enemy's main fire points. As soon as the artillery fire extended, the assault unit rushed up and destroyed the enemy's firepower points by means of continuous blasting. After a fierce battle, the 129th regiment captured the main position of NAOMA. The enemy immediately panicked and gathered more than 2000 people to fight back. Lin bin, the main force of the brigade, defended the main position of NAOMA by attacking the enemy 11 times. Later, Lin bin also commanded the 127th regiment to attack one of the enemy's four artillery positions with the method of blasting. Fearing the initiative of the 43rd brigade, the enemy's provisional eighth Corps staged a battlefield uprising. After the war, the 127th regiment was awarded the banner of "being able to attack and defend, invincible in the world" by the first regiment of the North China military region.
In mid March 1950, when the people's liberation army launched the Xichang campaign, 13 regiments of the 14th, 15th and 62nd armies attacked the enemy of Xichang from Yunnan and Sichuan, respectively. Lin bin commanded the 184th division of the 62nd army to attack from north to south. By the 25th, the 184th division had successively liberated Fulin, Shimian, Anshun Chang, dashubao and other places. The 332 regiment of the 44th division of the 15th army in the South attacked Dechang in the early morning of the 26th. It made a detour from the west of Xichang at 4 am on the 27th, occupying the airport and cutting off the enemy's air escape. Then, the 332nd regiment of the 44th division and the 552nd regiment of the 184th division successfully attacked from north to South and killed Hu Changqing, commander of the enemy's 5th corps and commander of the 69th army. Hu zongnan's chief of staff led the remnant to flee. At 6:00 on the 28th, Xichang City was liberated. At 23 o'clock, the 44th division and the 184th division worked together to annihilate all the remaining enemy forces at the pass of Xiaoxiangling mountain to the north of Xichang, and killed Tang Shizun, the deputy commander of the Southwest Military and political office of the enemy forces, at the Western Hills. On the 29th, the 551 regiment of the 184th division liberated Mianning. By the end of the 25 day Xichang campaign on April 7, the PLA had annihilated more than 10000 enemy troops and liberated 18 counties.
