Main achievements
Since becoming director of the litigation system and judicial reform research center of Renmin University of China in 1998, Chen Weidong has led the team to carry out research on some difficulties and gaps in judicial practice. Under many obstacles, Chen Weidong presided over and wrote the Research Report on the inspection system of detention places, which was adopted by the Ministry of public security. On September 13, 2010, he promulgated the regulations on the inspection and supervision of special supervisors in detention centers, saying that it "has become a bright spot in the reform of China's judicial system and working mechanism". In 2007, Chen Weidong wrote the debate on the legalization of secret investigation in China, which suggested that secret investigation should be included in the legal provisions, and public and strict legal procedures should be used to better protect civil rights. In 2012, China's criminal procedure law was amended for the second time. The number of clauses and scope of the amendment were unprecedented. Among them, "secret investigation" was written into the law, and "protection of the right of detainee to complain" was also actively promoted.
Professor Chen Weidong devoted himself to the study of China's judicial reform, published many academic papers and works, put forward a series of reform proposals, and made outstanding contributions to China's judicial reform. Participated in a series of reform demonstration meetings held by the National People's Congress, the Supreme People's court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Ministry of justice, and participated in the legislative drafting and amendment of China's lawyer law and China's criminal procedure law.
Professor Chen Weidong has a good cooperative relationship with the Cultural Committee of the British Embassy, the British Chinese Association and the Ford Foundation. He has successively undertaken such projects as the Ford Foundation's research on the implementation problems and Countermeasures of China's criminal procedure law, the research on the supporting measures and safeguard mechanism of China's criminal procedure law, and is currently undertaking a series of projects such as the British Chinese Association's research on the bail system He has presided over and held large-scale international seminars on judicial justice and judicial reform, judicial justice and lawyer defense.
