In 1927, Li Muran was born into a poor family in Heilongjiang Province. His family was supported by his eldest son, Li Shaoxian, who worked in the railway depot. In 1941, because his family was poor, Li Muran dropped out of primary school after only three years, and began to sell drama cigarettes, work as a laborer, and work as a postman. Since 1954, he has successively served as the leader of the Northeast People's art theatre drama troupe, actor, vice president, President and honorary president of Liaoning People's Art Theatre, vice chairman of China Dramatist Association, vice chairman of Liaoning Federation of literary and art circles, and chairman of Liaoning Dramatist Association.
