Life of the characters
Hezhan Tongguan
In the 16th year of Jian'an (A.D. 211), Cao Cao sent Zhong Yao and Xia Houyuan out of Chang'an to attack Zhanglu in Hanzhong through the territory of Liangzhou warlords such as Yang Qiu. The warlords in Guanxi such as Yang Qiu suspected that Cao Cao would attack and annex Liangzhou. Yang Qiu fought against Cao Cao from ten forces including he machao and Han Sui, with a total of about 100000 people. All the way to Tongguan. In July, Cao Cao led his army to the West and confronted the Allied forces in Jiaguan. Xu Huang, Zhu Ling and others were sent to puhanjin to occupy Hexi and set up camp. They crossed north from Tongguan. Although they were intercepted by Ma Chao, Cao Cao almost died. However, Cao Cao succeeded in crossing the river, and then ran across the Weihe River as a corridor to Weinan. So the Allied forces retreated and refused to garrison at Weikou. Cao Cao set up suspicious soldiers for many times, sneaked into the Weihe River with ships carrying soldiers, and made it a floating bridge. One night, Cao Cao divided his troops and camped in Weinan. The Allied forces attacked the Barracks at night, and Cao Cao set up an ambush to break the Allied attack. So Yang Qiu and others stationed troops in Weinan, sent letters to ask for peace talks in the west of the river, but Cao Cao refused. In September, Cao Cao's army crossed the Weishui River in batches, and the Allied forces challenged him several times, but Cao Cao didn't answer the challenge. The Allied forces could only ask for the land to be cut off and send hostages. Cao Cao adopted Jia Xu's tactics, pretended to agree, and then talked and laughed with Han Sui before the battle, which made the Allied forces suspect Han Sui. He wrote another letter to Han Sui to alter the fake Zhaoan letter, alienating the Allied forces in Xiliang, which led to mutual suspicion among the warlords of the allied forces in Guanzhong. After many battles, Cao Jun launched a decisive battle with the Allied forces in Weinan. Due to the uneven morale of the Allied forces and the suspicion of Han Sui after being alienated, the Allied forces were defeated. After the defeat of the coalition, Yang Qiu fled to anding. In October, Cao Cao's army marched northward from Chang'an to attack Yang Qiu. He met with Xia Houyuan and Zhu Lingping, who were appointed to the cities of MI and Di, in Anding, and surrounded the city. Yang Qiu was too weak to resist, so he surrendered to Cao Cao. Cao Cao restored Yang Qiu's title and let him stay to pacify the people.
Loyal to Cao Wei
In 220 A.D. (the first year of Huangchu reign of Emperor Wen of Wei), Cao Pi succeeded to the throne, and Yang Qiu was the champion general at that time. When Cao Pi was persuaded to become emperor, the title of general Wei Gongqing ranked the eighth. Before Cao Xiu, Cao Zhen, Zhang Liao, Zhang Ying, Xu Huang and Zhu Ling, he was also the Marquis of the countryside. In Liangzhou, Zheng Gan, Lu Shui and other mountain bandits made trouble. Yang Qiu was ordered to join Zhang Ying, Guo Huai and other mountain bandits to fight against Zheng Gan and Lu Shui, the leaders of the mountain bandits who launched the rebellion, and won a great victory. Yang Qiugong was indispensable to pacify Zheng Gan's rebellion. Only when Guanzhong was stable again could the common people live and work in peace and contentment. In 220-226 A.D. (the early years of the Yellow River), Yang Qiu was promoted to the rank of general taokou and was granted the title of Marquis Linjing. After that, he died and spent his military career.
