Interview with Gao Hao: pay tribute to tradition
Gao Gao: when I look at these small paintings you created, my first impression is that they are beautiful! A toad has a living individual, different temperament, different look, different demeanor, different interest, all living beings are equal, all have feelings. Gao Hao: from the angle of painting law, repeated arrangement is a visual law. Even the arrangement of washing machines makes people feel like a family of washing machines. There is also the feeling of all living beings, and now there is a sense of equality in itself, so it should not be surprising that all living beings are equal. Gao Gao: please talk about the theme of these paintings and how they were drawn? Gao Hao: let me first elaborate the professional ethics of artists. This is my position. Gao Gao: it has something to do with the work, doesn't it? Gao Hao: Yes, it has a very important relationship. I remember that an artist once said something like this, which had a great influence on me: "an artist should have such a pair of eyes to shed tears of sympathy for the unfortunate people. Let virtue appear more noble, make malignant appear more eye-catching. What he said was very simple, but very good. As an artist, first of all, you are a qualified person. Second, among these qualified people, you have to be an excellent person. You have to have a good heart. Superb: how not to say noble people, excellent more reflected in the ability, noble more reflected in the soul. Gao Hao: I think it's best to be simple. I dare not use nobility indiscriminately. It's because of awe that I don't use nobility indiscriminately. I've always been the same with tradition. I respect tradition. Gao Gao: what is tradition? Jinkemu said in class that tradition is the one handed down from generation to generation. Gao Hao: why do I like tradition. Because tradition is time tested. What can stay in time is something I respect. After too many unpredictable and too many changes, what can stay is awe inspiring. This is one of them. Second, tradition must be humanistic. Even if it is a tile or a brick, it also contains humanistic standpoint. There is humanistic spirit and humanistic atmosphere in it. It's called tradition. It's a meteorite. It's been a long time, but we can't say it's tradition. The real tradition includes a spirit and a meaning given by man. When people give these things, you will see the pains of people. He must have a distant heart to inherit this thing. So I respect those who are far sighted. It means that in the process of Zen creation, it's very important for you to repeat. Gao Hao: I especially like Zen. It is more convenient when it is applied to life. Some people will say that I am dull in nature, but I am eager to practice, so I choose to gradually realize. Some people think that it is pleasant to point at the heart of the people. So he would choose epiphany, which I like. Gao Gao: when you draw these paintings, it seems that you have both of them. You have to put in the hard process of creation, which is like a practice. But when every life appears, it's a flash in the eye. Gao Hao: it's a lot of different states, a lot of different feelings, because you give it different, when it forms an independent, you will feel particularly gratified, happy and excited. In fact, I like this sentence, a stroke of Bodhi. If every artist can really achieve one Bodhi per stroke, art must be moving. Because art needs devotion, piety and soul! Gao Gao: the story of the wheel is wonderful, but you can't pass it on. Do you pay homage to the tradition in this way? Gao Hao: it's because it's unique that it's hard to replace. Why do I value craftsmanship? Craftsmanship is irreplaceable. What is irreplaceable is precious and must be handed down. The reason why intangible cultural heritage can be turned into heritage remains is that people's desire is to keep this kind of thing, and people's spirit is to keep this kind of thing. Gaogao: back to the origin of ancient Chinese civilization, people can see various forms of combination of red and black. The combination of red and black is deeply rooted in Chinese civilization. What is your intention to choose red and black? Gao Hao: because for a long time, red has a special meaning in China. It's a Chinese color, Chinese red. There is red in Chinese tradition, red in political power and red among Chinese people. I remember when I saw the cultural relics of the Han Dynasty in a museum, I was shocked by the lacquer paintings of the Han Dynasty. The reason why the Han Dynasty is so powerful is that the spiritual power of the Han Dynasty is very strong, unlike other dynasties. Gao Gao: the production process of lacquer painting is very complicated. Gao Hao: when you reach the highest level, more is less, less is more. There is the highest realm in tradition, such as Tai Chi. When Taoism practices to the most refined and concise, it will summarize all complex things, all mysterious things, all rich things and everything into yin and Yang, and then achieve a kind of harmony in this Yin and Yang. At this time, Taiji diagram appears. That is to hold Yang in Yin, hold Yin in Yang, and then live forever. This is the highest realm. Gao Gao: can you talk about more is less, less is more. Gao Hao: first of all, I don't refuse to have many works, because many works are like all living beings. Brevity doesn't mean repelling many works. Brevity is the ability to grasp the commonness of many works at once. This is brevity. Gao Gao: This is the system, which has been handed down from generation to generation. Gao Hao: that's very clear. In the process of constantly increasing, we can make you understand what it is? If you draw one, you will never know what the many are. So you have to produce a large number of people. If all the people were elites, I would not draw these toads. So I wonder where the way out for the disadvantaged groups is? I draw red, my works can let me miss, let me pay tribute to the style of the Han Dynasty. Because in such a long history, it will reach such a height. The use of red and black in the Han Dynasty is so ingenious. Why can we choose two colors to make this dynasty not monotonous but brilliant? This is what I am most interested in as an artist, that is, contrast. It has a sense of progression, a sense of growth, a sense of progress. So this color is a living color, which is also a complex. Then gold is the same. What is gold? It's the color of the upper class and the color of the lower class. Superb: gold itself has a strong religious color. Gao Hao: gold is also a totem color. There are many meanings represented by gold. Chinese traditional culture endows it with many things, such as honor, imperial power, auspiciousness, and five elements. It's the toughest, the strongest, but the gold itself is soft. It is endowed with such a transformation, where the head contains the elements of Tai Chi. Black and red are also like this. They are both things of life and death. Gao Gao: what is the relationship between these works and endless life? Gao Hao: in the book of changes, it is said that "heaven is healthy, and a gentleman is constantly striving for self-improvement.". I am eager to feel the "health of heaven", and also eager to feel self-improvement. superb: for you, is repetition a force, a gesture, or a strategy? Gao Hao: I think repetition is reproduction and endless, so I especially like repetition! In many of my works, you can feel the factor of "Repetition". Gao Gao: is there a universal feeling in your works? Gao Hao: I don't dare to say that. I can only say that I have a kind of kindness in it, because I think when I have kindness, it's because I have compassion! I wrote in a poem: far from the sea, there is no need to spread to the sky, to be a tear in my heart. It's also sad. Let's talk about painting. When it comes to painting, I involuntarily turn the topic to martial arts. Wushu is closely connected with traditional culture and philosophy. In the tradition, the spiritual connotation of Wushu is very profound. Gao Gao: how does martial arts influence your works? Gao Hao: the technique I choose contains the concept of Wushu. Gao Gao: what concept? Gao Hao: the idea of life and death, the combination of movement and stillness, the combination of form and spirit, and the connection of images For example, there is a kind of healthy dance in dachengquan, whose rhythm and rhythm are also vivid, which is the highest level and superb. Knowing martial arts is also called having martial arts, just as an artist is called having craftsmanship. Having skills means having strong control ability and control mentality. This is very skilled technology. Those who have the most accurate craftsmanship must have different mentality because they can definitely find strong emotions in craftsmanship. A kind of obsession with this kind of thing, a kind of completely selfless concentration, can achieve such a state, so most of them are infatuated with their craft, love their craft, and cherish their craft. He put his craft into practice
